    That reminds me. The only reason I haven't put my fencing gear on ebay is that I'm keeping it so I can thrash Gadget

    p.s. I've never been put in the plate competition

    I'm not sure the plate is big enough for you. But you can always go back for seconds on your way back from the bar.

    Got rid of mine years ago. Sometimes I miss fencing...

    As for plate competitions - I've won one, and to be honest, it did nothing whatsoever to assuage the embarrassment of being knocked out in the first round. OTOH, dance is not fencing (how's that for a bit of fence-sitting? No pun intended.)

    I suppose it does work well from the point of view of giving those knocked out early some more competition experience - and that part can't be a bad thing.

    Yup, I agree that it should be lifted. I've recently become an Old Git so this idea has real appeal! All I would need is a willing teacher to "carry me" in the competition and I might get somewhere.
