    Re: Do You Fake Yours

Well I was a good girl and resisted the temptation to look - was supposed to be a surprise for me when I went up there, and the tease goes and puts a picture up!

Have to say that I was very impressed it's even better in life than in the picture, very twinkly! And there was I expecting some Frankenstein's monster of a decoration!

Beo - I hope that you're planning on keeping this for used next year?

So i fake it every year and will do till the day i leave this mortal coil.

    what about you folks.?

    Re: Do You Fake Yours

    me and dad like fibaroptic

my mum was boasting about how her and her "wonderful boyfriend Steve" had a magnificent real fir tree

    yawn! who cares

fake or not the only real thing about my mum is her common sense which she lacks so i guess shes a complete fake.

considering she was the reason me and dad had to buy another fibreoptic tree because she had broke the one she had given us, i think she should shut up about real fir trees and fork out 4 one for me and dad!

not dat we culd find use 4 it as our flat is quite small and cannot possibly fit a 12 ft wide snow dropped tree in there.....

Ours went up this weekend... and it's gorgeous!

Just over 6 feet of real pine tree with wonderfully soft scented needles that won't drop (from past experience and not just sales pitch) is now filling the lounge with the smell of Christmas... *happy sigh*

You can't beat a real tree for the look or for the smell.

I was spoilt for years, living on the edge of Rendlesham Forest in Suffolk. I bought my tree from the Forestry Commission (very cheap and guaranteed renewable) which was cut within the last day or two and I returned it to the same place after Xmas, where they shred the trees and use them as mulch! Never had a needle drop problem and always a big, bushy tree. They always had lots of varieties and sizes to choose from too. Always on display opened up and they "bag" them for you once you've chosen.

Haven't found anywhere around here like that yet.

    to LM.
    • Buy from the grower as it's likely to have been recently cut (those from most other places have been imported and could've been cut down weeks ago).
    • Depending how big your tree is, chop a bit off the bottom (I always take about 3 inches off).
    • Get a stand that allows it to sit in water (or wet sand, dirt or stones).
    • Remember to keep the water topped up.
    • Best not to put it near a heater, but if you keep it in water you can get away with it.

I took my younger son on Sunday to pick our tree, they cut it down there and then, once you've chosen it, and bag it up for you to bring home. Must admit this one is the prickliest we've ever had, but now it's up, it looks lovely and finally the room looks Christmassy

I liked the piece in Private Eye this week under their "Solutions" column:
