    Re: Do You Fake Yours

I started to fake it about four years ago with a 7 foot wopper ,the girth of the thing is also huge and I put four sets of lights on it. Didn't bother with it last year as it was sad time in the family but this year I will be celebrating with the fir monster. One of the many geeky things I like to do is to buy baubles for the tree wherever I travel. I love my Santa climbing up the Empire State building and the big red apple I bought in New York. I also have decorations that the kids made when they were little, they like it that I kept those.

You're asking the wrong girl, it was a very sarcastic Bah humbug

I once spent one of the worst days of my life with the family of a (now ex) boyfriend on Christmas day. The following year I volunteered to work, thinking (smugly) that I'd got out of a repeat performance. Queue Christmas eve phone call telling me that they had decided to postpone Christmas day especially for me and we were going to do it all on Boxing day instead...
    Broke up very soon after

Personally, on Christmas day I will be going for a stroll on the beach and then watching rubbish on telly all day whilst stuffing my face with Quality Street!

... Don't tend to spend much of Christmas at my house either so don't see the point in putting it up.....mind you I would also have to find some clear floor space to put it

    Re: Do You Fake Yours

    kinda on topic, kinda off...

Just to let U know, have been taking my elder girl to a ceramics place where we've been painting baubles for trees, with hand prints, etc... great fun, and a real lasting gift for grand parents, etc...

I've used Ceramic Experience, but there must be others offering same service.

    Just a thought...

Oh, and unfortunately, I'm currently faking it. It's better than nowt, but not as good as the real thing... Maybe next year... **sigh**

    Re: Do You Fake Yours

I grew up with real christmas trees. I love the smell, and the fake ones just can't compare at all. Sadly, since I moved in to this flat 5 1/2 years ago, I have started faking it..... I decided there's no need to splash out on a real tree if I'm not going to be here for Christmas, or if it's just me on my own. Did have a real tree two years ago, though, as I had Greg and my parents here (scary!!). This year the plastic festive bush (all 3 feet of it) will be erected again - but at least I do have a lot of self-made decorations, like my deep red and gold porcelain hearts.

Incidentally I will be selling hand-made porcelain christmas tree decorations, amongst lots of other lovely stuff, at the Art and Craft fair I'm organising at my studio this Friday and Saturday....

A tip for less needle dropping: If you can, buy your tree direct from the grower. (I'm going out with my brother and his family in Norway to chop our own tree on the 22nd December this year. Can't wait! ) The trees you buy from supermarkets and DIY stores have been chopped several weeks ago, so are of course not fresh any more. If you do buy from places like that, avoid the Norway Spruce - although this is the traditional christmas tree, it's really bad for dropping needles, unless it's freshly cut.

If at all possible, cut the bottom inch off the tree. This will help the tree absorb water once it is in the warmer climate of your home. Never let the water level in the tree stand drop below the trunk’s base. Also avoid putting the tree right next to a heater, stove or fireplace. Heat will make the needles drop quicker...

    Happy tree decorating!

    Well.. if you insist..

    The raw "ingredients"

Some of which may be red herrings.. Twirly didn't want to see it just yet, as she doesn't want the "surprise" to be spoiled.. although I think "shock" may be the word in question.

If you want to have a look at the "finished" result.

Click here for one of it in the light.. and one here of it in the dark.

And Twirly.. if you don't want to see.. don't click
