I like it like that, yeah baby

Vote only for the moves you like .

This is a private poll, so if you've been pretending to like drops with Bruce for the last 5 years, or if you only lead lunges because Sheila likes them, you can be truthful.

Tricky - with the right person I can enjoy any of the above.

What I lead varies a lot depending on the follow. It's pretty likely I'll lead multiple spins on Taz and Dizzy and I'd quite like the opportunity to put Drathzel in a Straightjacket again

I'm happy to attempt to follow pretty much anything...

For me it's more about the energy of it. So putting Taz into multiple spins most likely enhances the dance, whereas Hijacking someone who doesn't like it wouldn't.

There's no moves in the list I absolutely despise leading / following

Depends on the person... but I voted for all of them except the Stokie Slide
provided it's done with someone I'm comfortable with and who knows what they're doing

Oh, and by the way, asking someone you've never danced with before if they do dips or drops a split second before you lead/force her into one does not count as asking

Hmm, pretzels not too popular, are they? Is this because they are inherently uncomfortable or just (usually) led so poorly that they give that impression?

Would have been nice to see both mangles and ducking moves added to the list as they seem to be a couple of 'love 'em or hate 'em' type of move.

Pretzels did give me pause, but there are some people who lead / follow 'em smooth as silk so....

Can you think of any you despise?

Maybe a kind moderator would add mangles and ducking - or is it too late?

    BTW what are mangles?

    The Archiespin

So much potential for injury, so dependent on a signal, so little point

So is the mangle part what the woman does to the guy after he's messed up her hair then?

I quite like the achie spin, if its lead well. But I think its one that shouldn't be attemped if your partner's a markedly different height!

I don't mind 'ducking' under arms but here, I prefer the lead to be taller!

And as for Drops, I feel a lot 'safer', if the guys bigger than me too!

The only problem with late poll additions is that they are likely to look unpopular next to the earlier ones simply because fewer people will vote for them (unless all who've already posted withdraw their votes and re-vote).

Not that archies, ducking moves and mangles are likely to be the most popular choices anyway.....

I've heard mention of the Archie Spin, but no good descriptions of it.

Being pulled through a hedge backwards is my private name for it.

We still don't have a option for thread the needle type moves or my favourite hate, the Don't Duck

It's the one where the guy signals by rotating your wrist almost as far as it will go so your palm faces the ceiling. He then reverses the movement and does something similar to the step across. Aikidoists use it to throw people considerable distances or apply joint locks. One overly enthusiastic lady managed to do a judo throw on me in a Ceroc class when she was following *cough* violently backleading *cough* it.

I vividly remember a version being taught in a class and by the end of it pretty much every woman's hairdo was destroyed - those with ponytails / very short hair were the only escapees.

What is the Stokie slide? Also, do you need to be in Stoke to do it.

It's a simple but cheeky little foot lead, created by some idiot on this forum... whose name escapes me

    Stokie

It's not unusual for some women to squeal when they've Stoked, and the Stokie one arm bandit is pretty squealable too

Me too - don't get the archie spin that often, but I quite like it when the guy leads it well - can be a bit awkward if he doesn't time it right though. I've had it lead on me by people I don't know, and I almost invariably get a big smile from them when it goes right - so I can only assume it's a move that doesn't go well a lot of the time

I can find that duck under moves, where I'm doing the ducking obviously, will hurt my back if the guy is any shorter than me, particularly if he's a bit of a forceful lead you're usually quite tangled up by that stage, and I've not yet figured out a good way of getting out of them without breaking up the dance...

As for drops, so long as the guy is strong enough and has good technique, it's OK even if he's shorter than me.

I believe the guy should lead the lady through first, following a split second later himself. The trouble happens, when the guy attempts to turn at the same time or even worse, a fraction earlier than the girl... Ouch!

Yes, or waits too long. I sometimes feel as though the guy is surprised that I've actually followed the lead and turned - he comes round a second or so later whilst I've been standing there like a lemon waiting for him. However, whenever that has happened, I've noticed that I usually get at least one more archie spin in the dance, and it's usually perfectly timed
