    Dancing blindfolded??

Not often possible due to space consideration, but I was wondering whether many have experimented with dancing with eyes shut, or (slightly less safe) blindfolded (both partners).

It's an interesting experience, given the space.

Oops, soz... I'll do a search next time. It was just a thought triggered by a thread elsewhere when someone commented that dancing in night clubs was difficult cos the ladies couldn't see the leads.

The times I've tried it were very interesting, even liberating in a strange way.

I even use it (_very_ sparingly) as a technique with beginners who anticipate so much that it's really stopping them learning to follow. Though in those cases I keep my eyes open

The teacher at fulham where I taxi (London) does this nearly every lesson! It is great for beginners, it really makes the guys lead when the ladies close their eyes, and then when when you both have your eyes shut you learn a lot about the flow of moves and then "feel" of them.
    Great exercise

Funny you should mention this. We have just decided to incorporate this as one of our exercises in the taxi dancers beginners/improvers workshops structure. Glad to hear your trying it too Doc.

Spooky; last time I was dancing I was trying to lead the moves in the beginners class with my eyes closed: Challenging, but I haven't missed a hand or crashed my partner into anyone yet, so I must be getting at least some of it right.

This has been one of the exercises in the beginners workshops in Scotland for about the last 5 or 6 years and it is a very good exercise (aye eyes shut that is)

Have danced blindfolded and while it does help aspects of the lead it takes away aspects such as floorcraft as you are more or less rooted to the spot unless you are dancing on a virtaully empty dancefloor.

It is quite nice however to lead a lady who is blindfolded especially to a really bluesy track

And of course when you do this it's also really nice for the lady, as she can momentarily forget she's dancing with a Scooby lookalike.

Oh, yeah I've done the blindfold thing a few times - occasionally at ceroc too! In fact, I had it at the last Glasgow party but I'd fogotten my towel so it was used for other purposes... *sigh*

Blindfold dancing is great fun and not wanting to get any of the guys self-conscious (that spelling doesn't look right but Word likes it...) the Wonderful Will is particularly good at it...

I had a go at the party before the Hammersmith comp this year (where was that party?) and some random guy came up to me & asked me dance - then when I wandered onto the dancefloor he asked where the blindfold was! I don't just do it with any guy you know!!! I politely declined use of the blindfold with him...

Have a go Chris - it's good fun!

The party was at Chiswick. And you did it with me

I was quite surprised at the time, when you asked me to dance, blindfold in hand.....

Usually followed (at party nights anyhow), by either 'Shaggin' the night away (The Showmen)', or possibly '60 minute man (Wynonie Harris)'
