Is anyone going to Bisley on Sunday? We booked last night.
Hoping to go to a pole jam on Sunday .. kind of dancing
Getting the urge to go crazy and make a trip up to Glasgow tomorrow night....
Well, I had a good time at Twyford after a poor start. The music was more consistently uptempo than I personally would like but the floor stayed full and that's ultimately what a DJ is paid to do. I forgot to get a cookie though
Didn't enjoy Bisley as much as usual. Nothing to do with Lee's teaching which was as technical and in depth as I have come to associate with him, I just wasn't feeling on top of it and in the social I lacked inspiration and felt like I was just plodding through the same old, same old though there were a couple of enjoyable exceptions.
Went on to Berko, first time there in a while and wish I hadn't bothered though others seemed to enjoy it. The music was good (in both rooms) but it was very busy and the floorcraft was appalling. I asked two ladies at random when I first arrived and endured two of the worst dances I can recall. I also experienced that peculiar breed of lady who clearly are competent but wholly ignore the lead. Perhaps this all set the tone for the night.
It was very busy - I think that's mainly because of the relative lack of other events that weekend, though. There was one point where the Blues Room was crowded and the Main Room was quiet - weird, that.
I didn't notice any floorcraft problems, and I'm normally the first to whinge about this sort of thing. I did get turned down by the first lady I asked to dance, though, so that's a whinge I can have
Yes agreed the Blues room did seem very busy from what i heard and thats understandable as the pace was kept quite high in the main room, hence the odd quiet spell in there.
As for floorcraft. This will always be a difficult one to crack especially in smaller halls when they are busy. I endeavour to work with the teachers on this and over time hope to get some progress.
Twyford
Arrived late as was not going to go until DTS decided he had found a second wind and at 9pm we were showering to do the hour drive and arrived just after 10pm.
Lovely to see Mr and Mrs underpar - Mrs underpar as usual was looking gorgeous and Mr underpar as usual tossed me around like a little girl making me squeal far too much. Love it love it love it. He also tossed DTS around like a little girl and he too squealed like one.!!
Managed to grab the ever popular Robd who opened up the dance with " christ i cant stop looking at your tits" - always a good opener i think!!! Anyway, he is one of the loveliest dancers to be with so i would forgive him anything, not that it upset me in the least, he was just being honest instead of sneaking a look as most do.
Mr Darcy - <swoon> - best dances of the nite as usual. Thank you.
I thought the music was brilliant, the floor got a little too packed at times but overall it was well worth the journey.
My next freestyle will be ashtons on 21st and i cant wait.
she wasn't the one dressed all in black who kept tossing her hair around?
it got extremely aggravating lol
i get a bit annoyed with the floor-craft at st albans. Mostly at the intermediate class when i am trying to learn and we have to swap partners it annoys me when beginners who have told me they have been dancing a week and they attempt the intermediate class. I get bored because people are trying to figure out what arm is which and i always end up dropping out because i want to scream at them: Why are you doing this class? Its too hard!!!!!!!!!!!
Nah. that'd be Lory I reckon
- actually, I think Refuse Girl ( ) was your mate, so I blame you
Yes, we had this discussion a few weeks ago, didn't we.
I don't think St. Albans is bad, but it's got a bit of word-of-mouth "This Is The New Place To Be" going for it, and that sort of reputation seems to attract more than its fair share of intermediate numpties.
I said this last time i went to St Albans to DTS. The standard of dancing does not match the lessons being taught unfortunately. Whilst the teacher has some great moves even DTS was struggling with one of them because they are whilst challenging, hard.
The average joe punter at St Albans is at best just going into intermediate level and they are unable to keep up with the level being taught so it becomes a big old heap of frustration.
The teacher needs to stop rubbing his ego and bring it down a notch.
Sorry, I don't agree
The evening has 3 classes and the last one is advertised as 'advanced'. I was there last week and heard, the teacher (Mick W), stressing that its aimed at people who've been dancing a long time and find the usual classes 'easy'.
I haven't actually done the class myself but I've watched and yes, he teaches it as breakneck speed, for which I applaud him. Why should he wait/slowdown/dumb down the lesson for those who never 'get it', they are the ones who're clearly in the wrong!!
I don't participate personally (unless, as has happened, someone asks me to 'fix' with them), as I don't get anything out of learning 'moves' anymore! If its follow-able, I know I'll be able to follow it in freestyle anyway (cocky cow, aren't I )
I have to add, I enjoy watching this class from the sidelines, I pick the styling points, better, from simply watching and also, its a great opportunity to eye up the talent I watch to see who gets it and who does it with a bit of panache and make a B-line for them later!
