    Dancing on Xmas Eve?

We have the opportunity of using our regular Ceroc venue in Twickers (York House not The Winning Post) for an Xmas Eve ball. There's nothing else on that night and we can't make our mind up on whether it's something people will attend or whether they consider that Xmas Eve is for staying in and/or meeting up with family and friends. Would be really good to know what people think about this.

For me Christmas Eve is more special than Christmas Day. It's the excitement thing. I wouldn't dream of being anywhere but in my house with the fire on and excited children around me.

I'll be frantically wrapping presents and watching some over hammed drama unfolding on Eastenders.

    Hi Rocky,

We had the opportunity to run a Christmas Eve freestyle at Twyford a couple of years ago and were surprised how many people attended. Actually there were a lot of men, most of the ladies were probably busy at home stuffing turkeys and wrapping last minute pressies

I say go for it, you'd be surprised how many people will need a last minute dance fix before their families descend on them!!

That's really helpful Bex - the next question then is it better to finish before midnight so that people can be home for the start of Xmas or should we offer a later night? (obviously will still be dependent on what the venue is prepared to let us do).

Well we could only finish at midnight but I don't remember a mass exodus before then.

This night won't appeal to everyone, especially those with really young kids etc, but there are a lot of people who don't have those sort of commitments and I'm sure would be up for it.

I think it is a fantastic idea

I am alone this year for Christmas and the idea of going out on Christmas eve is fab - last year there were many lost souls looking for somewhere to go on Christmas eve and I am sure they would be just as eager this year

Ceroc Chilterns did an event on Christmas Eve in 2005 - here's the thread:

And Paul F was considering organising a party on Christmas Day that year:

    So there's certainly precedent.

We'll be going to see a band on the 24th at the BAWA in Bristol (Rock n Roll) so far they've sold about 120 out of 350 tickets, I expect that to increase rapidly over the next few weeks, so clearly i think that there is an appetite for going out on Xmas Eve. the singles, newly marrieds and empty nesters (like us) are quite likely to be looking for something to do before the onslaught the following day.

I suggest that you check what will be available public transport-wise too. Not everyone can/will want to drive, and you may limit the number of attendees if the public transport finishes too early.

Of course, if it finishes ridiculously early, it might be something for car drivers only, but it might be helpful to people to mention this as part of the booking process.

    I should know better

I just checked my list for last Christmas Eve (2006) and there were two events - Bedford Ceroc & Berkhampstead Ceroc Chilterns - not sure how well they were attended.

Still think it is a great idea though, and Twickers would cater more for the London and South Coast crowd

Will Santa's sack be full on Xmas Eve? If you put on some dancing then he's not going to get the chance to empty it all over the land is he?

Assuming we finish at midnight this will still give Santa around 5-6 hours to completely empty his sack before day break... I think that will be enough time for him to do the job properly..

I remember a few years ago going to Twyford Xmas Eve do and had a brilliant time. There were lots of good dancers there too. Unfortunately this year I will be working so no dancing for me. I would go for it Rocky

I have gone to London several times on Christmas Eve to stay there, having gone to see Leicester sq lights etc, stayed over & come back late morning. London was always empty on Xmas eve because people were at home

BUT i would say if you want to do it, do it, for some who actually hate christmas you will be their Angel. good luck!

    You have to remember:-

Christmas Eve 2004 was a FRIDAY
Christmas Eve 2005 was a SATURDAY
Christmas Eve 2006 was a SUNDAY

This year Christmas Eve falls on a Monday - IMO the actual day is not important it is the date, however, this could emilinate most competition (if there is any)
