I recently realised that our average monthly fuel costs so far this year are £539. The last few months have been well over £600, now that we have the large van to carry all Marc's kit around.
And that's excluding my work mileage, which is about 300 miles a week.
Ceroc Central used to pay a small mileage allowance, but this stopped happening when the teachers and dj's had to become self-employed. There are a few franchises who do, however, take the fuel costs into account and add it into the overall sum paid, which is nice.
Unfortunately, we can't do car sharing whenever Marc's working as 1. the van doesn't have enough seats and 2. we have to be there so much earlier and leave later than everyone else for the set up/take down.
Still, the good news is we have just bought a little (but old) car which I can use to get to work, meaning that I no longer have to be white van woman during the day.

We too bought a diesel, but the diesel has risen more than the petrol hasn't it? So that saving isn't as good as it was.
I used to drive to and from London twice every weekend for dancing. My Mini is rubbish on fuel consumption, also about 37mpg, so I tend to take the Hubby's diesel Focus if I can now. After seeing your maths on here I'm wondering how on earth I can justify spending that, just to dance! (See you at Utopia on Friday )
Actually I have cut down alot on my travel. Because of my enthusiasm for dancing lessening, I think more about the cost. When I was still getting the massive buzz from it I would have paid and not thought twice about it.
I seem to recall seeing something on Facebook. An application that allows you to post about car shares.
I wonder if something can be set up on this forum to allow people to post where they are driving to, how many spaces in their car, how much they would expect for fuel etc.
If I was wanting to go to somehwere like Beford or somewhere and i saw that someone was driving from my near vacinity and offering a share I know i would be more inclined to go given the current climate.
My gas guzzling machine was running at 27mpg according to trip computer over the last few thousand miles.
Then I experimented on a few longer journeys by putting it in neutral on some long downhill stretches on motorways - and got it up to 33mpg for those journeys. Still it's ****** expensive.
Anyway, I haven't driven my car for about 4 weeks now (IP duties) - and I am considering whizzgo - see - WhizzGo - A Car When You Want One as an alternative to car ownership -especially as they have several sites in central St. Albans which is my UK location. Need to work out the balance of economics/convenience though.
It seems quite a cool concept if u don't use a car so often (which I don't).
I dream of the high 20s....16-18 in town, 22-25 on a big run
I know it's bad but am I officially the worst??(no not a Chelsea Tractor)
On the flip side I am only 6 miles from work 3 or 4 times a week and always use the bus to the city so am probably at the low end of total polluters and will often take at least another body on runs to Eds for the smooth grooves. I love my usual passengers dearly but by Timothy the car feels heavy fully loaded with, er, footballer's thighs so am probably down below the 20 again....
