I shall wait to find out more about this.

You don't get £4,000 for a broken wrist. Difficult to imagine they gave her that; it would be the equivalent of 3 months pay.

Perhaps the Mirror has added the damages to the costs and given the whole amount the hairdresser must pay.

While I think that the woman should not have expected to get a job in a hair salon if she wanted to wear a headscarf, it may be that the salon owner handled it spectacularly badly.

That's the trouble with newspaper reports; you get no more detail than they can fit in a square inch of page space.

And things like facts tend to get overlooked in the constant search for a shocking headline - I've known more than one person in journalism who freely admits that when newspapers don't have a lot to print, they will just make stuff up on the basis that they'll make more money on average if they make up an attention-grabbing story than they'll lose if they get sued for libel...

I'd heard that, but I wasn't sure if they were making it up or not .

My lovely hairdresser is completely bald and wears really trendy glasses. Obviously, he is in the wrong job and should be working next door in Specsavers

Look how the Sun says 'Muslim woman wins 4k 'and then again in capitals a 'MUSLIM' woman

Would they have said white women wins 4k ?

If it's in context to the story then yes I suspect they would.

    Example..

"white woman wins £4,000 from ethnic hairdressers for not having dread locks"

No; they don't use words like 'black' or 'white' these days. The muslim label is not to do with race but with religion.

So the converse would be 'Christian woman wins...', not 'white woman'.

DT is right; it's fair enough to report the woman's religion when that's the issue at the root of the dispute.

It is obviously not black and white...

    Maybe it is grey...

Indeed, if you do something for your religion and it does not match the job... then go find another job.

Otherwise we will get headlines like:
"Christian woman sues coz she does not want to work Sundays"
" Jewish woman sues coz she does not want to work Saturdays"
