    Power Adapter

Im pretty sure this won't have been asked before.

I have a power adapter for a bike light. I have just got the light itself back from the repairer only to find it won't charge.
Now I dont know whether it is the light or the charger (charger plug or connector end).

Does anyone know how I could possibly test the charger to see if it is that. The problem is that its a sealed unit which is obviously not meant to be opened.

The charger itself is a simple plug on one end and a connector on the other. The connector is in a very small triangular shape with 2 holes at the bottom 2 corners of the triangle base. These just fit over two pins on the light itself.

Aside from any tests which involve water I was wondering if anyone knows how I would go about testing it. Is this something you can just walk into an electrical shop and ask them???

Essential kit: small naked bulb (tichy one like in a torch) and two wires. Poke the wires in the charger holes and tape them onto the pos and neg of the bulb to see if it lights.

Or, buy a meter from B&Q/Maplin.

Or, take the light back to where it was repaired and announce "Dunt work!" They will test it and if it isn't the light, it must be the charger...

I've gone and done, what I thought was, the stupid thing and ordered a new one!

I thought it was the wrong thing to do until I read the returns policy from the onlibe shop which says you can send things back if:
    -they dont fit
    -they have a fault
    -you ordered incorrectly OR
    -you just dont like them

Thats what I call a flexible returns policy

Thanks for the advice though. Might use the bulb idea again.

Basic meters are so cheap nowadays. Worth keeping one around in any case, and they come with probes.

I'd recommend against the bulb test.

I might be missing something but it sounds like it could go wrong.
