Sometimes I adjust the bass mid-lesson. I say it makes me sound more manly - it's a shame there isn't a gain on my video camera to make me look more manly

I was trying to aviod the word "manly" but you saw through me.

Yes I have not got a "manly" voice, so I tweek the mic! - you can fool some of the people some of the time

as to the video camera, well video cameras are "harsh" - they lie.

I blame wide screens for making me look fat and overhead lighting for making my bald-spot look 5 times the size it is

I think I look more manly in women's clothes. It's a strange paradox, but a guy dressed in feminine clothing looks less feminine, not more

Yes: Did you learn anything useful? Then borrow ideas, techniques, etc.
No: Then analyze why, and avoid those reasons yourself.

Got off my backside and started doing this again, galvanized by the fcat the fact that it was a teacher I hadn't seen before teaching locally. I won't go into what I thought of the lesson, that would be unfair ... but I did reaise the practicl difficulties of making an 'on the fly' analysis of someone teaching.

For a strat there are the practicalities. Sittimng their with a notepas taking notes was sure to attract several people asking the "what are you doing, copying moves?". On reflection I should just have said yes ... without having to complicate matters by explaining what and why I was doing it. Again, on reflection, I maybe should have mentioned it to the instructor ... but I couldn't think of a delicate way of putting it ..."Don't mind me. I'm just going to analyse everything you do, nick what is good and note all your bad points to make sure I never do them .... " .... that might not help?

The main problem, though, is that I kept on needing an action replay. I'd miss some of the pictures she was painting or a good phrase to describe movement. Also, sometimes you need to see something several times to pick up on what was missing.

So ... in the end I picked up a few things ... but for 40mins effort I'm not sure what practical use I got from it.

"what practical use I got from it:" - "in the end I picked up a few things"

Isn't that enough? You can only really focus on and implement one thing at a time anyway.

To clarify ... it reinforced a few things I already knew about what NOT to do and how to confuse Jo Public

I hear what you say ... but I don't think that is the way it should be. Teachers can pass on so much more than just moves in their allotted 35 mins for that lesson.
