    Invisible Tanks my donkey

fair enough - these are tabloid stories...but.....

    Daily Mail

    The Sun

basically they say "New technology that can make tanks invisible has been unveiled by the Ministry of Defence." which of course is utter poo-on-a-stick.

You project an imagine of what is behind the tank/object whatever on the surface of said tank/object. Fine in theory and its old technology (heres an article from 2005 and of course the famous japanese clothing from 2003). The rather obvious problem with it is even if they can make the material itself do all the image capture and projection (which they cant, not by a long shot) its still subject to the viewing angle of the people watching. i.e. if there is one tree directly behind the tank and you are off to the side, you'd see half a tree where there isn't one.

All credit to the Sun for saying "The result is that the naked eye sees only the view which is BEHIND the tank." which explains invisibility for stupid people quite well. And also their use of the word "wizardry"

I think if you'll look carefully you'll find that you won't see the invisible tank in the road outside your house...QED

It's very old technology. Bob Hope was always forgetting where he put his invisible tanks - he had a song written to remind him about them.

Incredibly, that's only my second-worst tank-related joke on this Forum...

    I liked this quote:
the brains behind the latest technology is the MoD's very own "Q" - Professor Sir John Pendry, of Imperial College London.

He said the only drawback was the reliability of the cameras and projectors.

But he added: "The next stage is to make the tank invisible without them - which is intricate and complicated, but possible."
He then added "Mwaahahahahahaha, and then I shall be INVINCIBLE!!!!!"

Oh, hold on, maybe that last part was written in invisible ink.

Seriously: we're engaged in 2 wars, our armed forces have paper-thin "armoured" transport, guns that jam if it gets hot, air support from planes that didn't have cannon mounted, p1ss-poor accommodation at home, pathetic pay, zero appreciation from their political masters, and God only knows what other problems - and we're wasting money on this rubbish?

If we have invisible Tanks will the Americans still shoot and kill more of our boys than the enemy?

If they do....NO CHANGE THERE THEN.

The best way to hide a tank is in plain sight.

I suggest that in the future all tanks should resemble Starbuck's.
