Living TV have a dance competition/reality tv show on at the moment called Dirty Dancing: The Time of Your Life.

It's based in the hotel where the film was made. 8 guys, 8 girls, 10 weeks, weekly "dance-off", etc...

Haven't seen it, but the reviewer in the Metro quite liked it.

It's on at 9pm on Wednesday, and doubtless repeated through the week...

I'll grant you .. it has an epic car chase and one of the most spectacular and by far longest car pile up shots in any film I can think off

I love it when the SWAT and Army get called in

Oops! So you did. I was going to watch it, but then forgot about it totally!

Must try to catch it next week...

Just checked – it's repeated at least on Saturday at noon and Sunday night at 8pm.

"Dirty Dancing" is like "Flashdance" - good cheese, some reasonable tracks, a few good lines, but eminently forgettable otherwise.
Strictly ballroom was magic, Shall we dance just for me captured the whole feeling of finding something that is just right for you but still loving the situation you are in ..duh if you know what I mean. The bit when he walked up the escalator with the tux and the rose...wow... but dirty dancing was sooooooo goooooood for me and it's a film I will never tire of. What about 'save the last dance' hip hopping and sexy.

Ahem...did I mention I was in a film as an extra at an Edwardian Tango tea dance in 'Brides in the Bath'' which had Martin Kemp as the horrible George Smith who murdered his wives whilst they had a bath.

Any other stories of extras out there.....

Top Hat was a film made in 1935 staring Fred Astair and Ginger Rogers, the main thing that sticks out in my mind was the routine they did to the song 'Dancing Cheek to Cheek'. Looooovely

You have made me want to watch the film again so will dig out my dvd and watch it

I have lots of dancing films dvds, ie Save the last dance 1,2 Dirty dancing 1 and 2, Take the Lead, Step up, Shall we dance with richard gere etc.

And i want to get the Fred Astaire films too but the dvds never have subtitles for me so i cant get them and watch them again!

I was talking about the one-off 60-minute programme, 'Seriously Dirty Dancing' made to mark the 20th anniversary of it... presenter Dawn Porter –who's apparently seen movie over 100 times, headed for America in search of Baby and Johnny.

Dawn went on a comic pilgrimage to the United States hoping to fulfil her life-long dream of doing ‘The Last Dance’ with the film’s star, Patrick Swayze. She headed off to America armed with a pair of three-quarter-length white jeans, two watermelons and a life-size cutout of Patrick Swayze (I would have so loved to be her in this documentory )

She visited the camp and some of the origonal cast, then she recreated the 'lake scene', which I might add, she went through about 10 Swayze wanabe's.

Then she had 2 weeks of dance lessons to recreate 'the last dance'

The whole programme was brilliant and hillarious, I just wish I'd taped it!

If you can't be bothered to watch the whole film:

So did you watch it then - did you enjoy it??? I quite enjoy the film - a guilty cheesey pleasure, but still fun.

(And my vote is for Smokey and the Bandit for the best car-chase)
