    For Watermelon Carriers Everywhere

Channel 5 are showing the BEST Movie in the World Ever on Sunday night and will then screen a wee documentary. No doubt it will be full of southern idiots in leggings standing infront of the odd bit of cool footage and Ocean Finance will be on at least six times making it about a 20 minute hour long doc but know I wouldn't miss it for the world.

I actually watched this last Sat night - with a dancer friend who had never seen it! Shock!

DTS if 'I carried a watermelon' isn't enough of a clue here's another 'Nobody puts Baby in the corner'.

    Dirty Dancing.

I saw the show a few weeks back in London.

It was a scary experience, I haven't been this outnumbered by women since the last Camber weekender

Oh, DTS, you know - holiday camp, sleazy git dance teacher, dumb gullible teenage girl, improbable pregnancy side plot - tut, what's it called - Filthy Foxtrot? - something like that.

    Me too.

The only dance movies I've liked over the past 20-odd years are "Strictly ballroom", "Shall we dance?" (original Japanese version) and - to a point - "Take the lead".

"Dirty Dancing" is like "Flashdance" - good cheese, some reasonable tracks, a few good lines, but eminently forgettable otherwise.

    Burglar (Whoopie Goldberg),
Steel Dawn (Another Swayze film if that's your thing),

Beg to differ. Maybe not a 'blokes' film but if the likes of Amir uses it to demonstrate dancing attitude etc. then it must have some merit. Anyway, at least some of the dancing is actually really good, unlike the abominations that pervade 'Saturday Night Fever' ... worst dance film EVER.

I've heard that the Olympic Committee is looking into replacing its current gender testing techniques (y'know, the test done to prevent more "Dora" Ratjen incidents), as the current testing methods are imperfect.

They could do worse than screen Dirty Dancing to the athletes, post-competition

I'll side with DJ here and state a preference for Jennifer Beal's body Flashdance's quality script, soundtrack and dance scenes .

Its what Baby says to Johnny when she firsts meets him 'I carried a water melon.' when he asks 'What's she doing here?' She thens repeats it to herself in realisation that it was a pretty stupid thing to say!

    Well, duh.

Flashdance is about ballet dancing, Dirty Dancing is partner dancing. Doesn't make DD better than FD, any more than Take the Lead is better than Billy Elliott. Hmmm, is "Billy Elliott" a dance film? I'd say not, personally.

Anyway, FD had the memorable exchange:
"That was your first date, wasn't it?"
"Yeah, it was. As a matter of fact... I f***ed his brains out."
    "Obviously, you did."

Somehow I can't see that in DD.

Christ no, there are hundreds worse films competing for that title, it's difficult to know where to start...
