Red Arrows Olympic 'ban' causes online furore | The Register
Got to love the Internet Rumor Mill....
I have a couple of e mails of late concerning the cancellation of the the Red Arrows display team at the London Olympics, below I have pasted part of the message. I have no idea as to the truth of the claim, does anyone know anything agout it.?.........
message as follows.
Is it me or what????? I really can't believe this country sometimes!!!!! We've something brilliant and spectacular that no-one else has, but we can't show it off ..... in our own skies ... in our own airspace .... we're not allowed to be proud about them ...... cos it might be deemed too British !!!! Unbelievable! What other country would take that stance????
The world-famous Red Arrows have been banned from appearing at the 2012 London Olympics because they are deemed "too British".
Organisers of the event say that the Arrows military background might be "offensive" to other countries taking part in the Games. The display team have performed at more than 4000 events worldwide, but the Department of Culture, Media and Sport have deemed the display team "too militaristically British". Red Arrows pilots were said to be "outraged", as they had hoped to put on a truly world class display for the Games, something which had never been seen before. Being axed from a British-based event for being "too British" is an insult - the Arrows are a symbol of Britain
The Red Arrows have been excellent ambassadors for British overseas trade, as they display their British-built Hawk aircraft all over the world.
The Arrows performed a short flypast in 2005 when the winning bid was announced, but their flypast at the Games was to have been truly spectacular.
It is to be hoped that common sense prevails

Got to love the Internet Rumor Mill....
As stated - its a hoax - the event is 5 years away
People just love winding other people up
What event?
They'll have one hell of an unfair advantage in the sprint relay.
I think the really astonishing news here is that all the US, Russian, German, French and many other nationality aerobatic teams have been disbanded.
That must be the case, or the idea that 'no-one else' has something like the Red Arrows would just be laughably stupid jingoism, which can't be right, can it?
I mean, the Americans have an Air Force display team, a Navy display team, and a Marines display team, but clearly they can't be as brilliant and spectacular as what we Brits have, right?
The US Navy has almost more firepower on each of its two dozen nuclear powered aircraft carriers than we have in the RAF...
Methinks someone at the Daily Mail has been spreading rumours
