So here I am once again wondering what to do tonight. So let me see Chiswick mmmm!!! Maybe I could take along some skis along for the blues room - could do with some practice before heading to Milton Keynes Snowdome in the week. And sure I could pick up some lard on the way so not to notice the sticky floor in the main room. Have a spare andrex too for the loo. Decisions! decisions!
Would travel up to Daventry but those 40mph cameras really irritate me! If anyone does travel up tonight let me know how many workmen you actually spot working on the M1
Don't keep us in suspense.
Did you go to Chiswick?
If so, was the floor better?
.....meaning, I was (mildly) wrong.
It was a good night (post-anti-climactic rugby) - although the music (JB and friends) wasn't anywhere near as good as Thursday's classic St. Albans set (JBs best), or Marie's wonderful-fantabidozee set at Cheshunt on Friday. A slightly 'groups together' atmosphere....- load of good dancers/hotshots and yet....a slightly flat atmosphere (ok I know that is a reflection on me - post-match).
Still - Berko tonite to look forward to.....
Well, I did go to Chiswick last night... and, amazingly, had one of my best freestye nights ever
Got there just after 9 (no traffic on the roads ) and jokingly asked the folks on the front desk if there was anyone there (I could see a fairly empty looking room with just a handful of dancers), then asked if there were actually any men there... and there were actually more men than women
Changed into one of the three pairs of shoes I'd brought with me (armed for the sticky floor, but sans talc), and immediately got asked to dance. And spun without any problems whatsoever My friend also commented on the improvement in the floor. The place gradually filled up... with a few women and lots of men Although that did mean that I hardly had a chance to sit down without being asked to dance constantly - could have got away without asking all evening if I'd wanted to (was beginning to understand how some men feel when there are too few of them ) Although it did get a bit busier, there wasn't the number of people there usually are, so there was plenty of space to dance without crashing into people (am beginning to wonder if the "floorcraft" issues people on here complain about are less about people being considerate, and more about over-crowded venues )
Had a chat with Jammy, who asked my opinion of the floor. Apparently, after many meetings, he'd persuaded them to simply clean it. This didn't make it fast, but it did make it perfectly danceable... for the first hour or two. Sadly, it did seem to go down hill later in the evening, and developed lots of sticky patches. Jammy seems to be aware of this though, and I assume from my chat with Wayaay Bird that he is going to see what can be done about it. The blues room floor was lovely though (if slopey, not much to be done about that one I guess).
And yes, the loos were running short of supplies (apart from the one with no lock on the door - when are they going to fix that?!), and despite the lower numbers, it did get very very hot in the main room.
I also discovered where Jammy gets his dancing skills from - it's clearly genetic. His dad was there, and I had a lovely couple of dances with him... he even sang to me at one point!
Had some lovely dances (despite not dancing my best - still coughing and a bit knackered from my cold) both in the main and blues room, particularly with MikeyR - thank you
So, unexpectedly, it was a great night, and I came away absolutely shattered
