Very funny thing happened, well I found it funny....
I have just moved into a new neighbourhood. All new houses, some as old as 2 years, some still being built. So some people have been here 2 years, some only a few weeks or months.
Last week was main bin and recycle bin day... Normally in New South Wales recycle every 2 weeks, normal bin every week...
So I went out yesterday to put out just the one bin, but next door also had recycle bin out... hmmm thought I, (new to Queensland, almost 3 weeks now), who knows could be every week for recycle, and it is full.... so I put also my recycle bin out.
What I noticed is that 80% also put out thier recycle bin (I am on a winner I thought)...
Turns out no, main bin emptied and recycle not, jumping on the website, Queensland also do recycle only every 2 weeks.. BUT 80% in the street followed my neighbours lead and put out recycle bin...
Are we just sheep, or do we just hope! Or do we simply all not know much...
So far there are 4 houses who have taken the main bin in, and are living in hope the recycle bin will still be emptied by the "night bin men"
[I suppose I should not laugh, I thought twice about leaving mine out, then hit myself over the head, and told myself not to be silly...]
I never know what is supposed to go out when, so I just see what the neighbours have put out and do the same. Life is too short to think about bins. I let the neighbours do the thinking and Gav do the bin bags.
Yes I wait and copy next door, but I think I will no longer copy the young chick who lives at number 5...
Bins are on my mind, as I have just moved into a new house, throwing stuff out and buying new stuff, so lots of chucking out of old stuff and packaging from new stuff... bins fill up quick atm...
Well, Milgram's Experiment suggests that two-thirds of us are, in fact, sheep.
Of course that leaves the other third split between the hopeful and the ignorant...
