I don't believe it, they've actually managed an even more impressive list of non-famous celebrities than normal!

Honestly, you'd think people like Jude Law would be begging to go on it, just for the chance to dance with mostly-naked attractive women, wouldn't you? No?

Alternatively, if Jude and some people that people have heard of aren't possible, can we have real randoms, please, not Z-list celebs?!

Yeah. Sadly no Jude, Brad, Johnny or Keanu.

    So we've got:

    • Alesha Dixon & Matthew Cutler
    • Brian Capron & Karen Hardy
    • Gabby Logan & James Jordan
    • Dominic Littlewood & Lilia Kopylova
    • Kate Garraway & Anton Du Beke
    • Gethin Jones & Camilla Dallerup
    • Kelly Brook & Brendan Cole
    • John Barnes & Nicole Cutler
    • Letitia Dean & Darren Bennet
    • Kenny Logan & Ola Jordan
    • Penny Lancaster-Stewart & Ian Waite
    • Matt D'Angelo & Flavia Cacace
    • Stephanie Beacham & Vincent Simone
    • Willie Thorne & Erin Boag

BBC - Strictly Come Dancing - Homepage

I reckon John Barnes & Nicole will be in with a shout, and Penny Lancaster and Ian... I hope Anto will get further this year, too.

I'll try to reserve judgement until i've seen them dance but not thrilled with Vincent's pairing this year - he seems to have been given the "oldie" of the bunch. I know they seem to do this with every series but it seems unfair to have the majority of the women under 35 and then throw in one older one. I think Brendan's pairing should be an interesting one though and I'm looking forward to seeing what Alesha and Matthew are like. Will also be keen to see if John Barnes can improve on his "swaying with a ball under the arm" technique from the World in Motion video haha.

When does it start, does anyone know?

Yeah - those women over 35 shouldn't be allowed! Maybe they could combine SCD with an old Sci-Fi series & call it Gabby Logan's Run? (I'll get me coat)

I think it's nice to have a mixture of ages & abilities - particularly when you get to see people improve, like Aled Jones for instance...

    I'd forgotten about that - you've got a point!

haha, wasn't meaning it in an ageist way! It is nice to see people improve, it's just unfair that they throw in just one lady who is so much older than the others, 3 older and 3 younger would be much more balanced.

I see what you mean now! I think they've gone for a spread in ages, though. Letitia Dean's 39, Penny Lancaster's 36, and Stephanie's always struck me as having taken care of herself, fitness wise I mean. It's not like poor old Jimmy Tarbuck last year...

Only if he promises to wear BLACK latin trousers this year - I am still in shock from when he wore the lilac (or were they white) trousers?

    Hope it's a good one!

    Re: SCD - Series 5

I read in the Independent on Saturday (I've been away and haven't had access to my computer) that Neil Warnock (ex Sheffield United Manager) was approached to take part. However he was asked to commit himself to the series until December and he didn't want to do that as he was looking to get another football manager's job.

Loving it it's just a shame anyone has to go. Let's hear it for the legend that is John Barnes (you can be slow or fast but you must get to the line)

Re: Strictly Come Dancing 2007: Week 1

I think maybe a new thread each week would be good - I'll provisionally rename this as "Week 1", how's that?

    My comments:

Matt and Flavia (chacha): I liked him - the things he does wrong are fixable, the things he does right (line, figure, style) can't be taught. Plus, he's got Flavia to play with. Definitely a stayer.

Brian and Karen (waltz): as always, Karen's chooses great music and choreography, but this left me pretty cold, Brian was average at best. And what's she done to her hair, huh?

Dominic and Lilia (chacha): all I can say is - God knows why the judges liked it, I hated the routine with a fiery passion.

Willie and Erin (waltz): Amazingly, it was lovely - but he'll get hammered on the Latin dances I think. Plus "His head looks like plastic" as my 5-year-old told me

Gethin and Camilla (chacha): well, that was just rubbish, wasn't it? What a waste of eye-candy.

Kenny and Ola (Waltz): Blimey, I'd already forgotten this one - very bland.

John & Nicole (chacha): Hmmm, that outfit didn't do him any favours did it? Looked like 2 mathsticks stuck into a potato. Plus all this weight stuff got boring quickly, it's not a diet club / makeover show John, it's a dance competition.

    General thoughts:
    - What's "swing blues"?
    - Like the judge-decision for the dance-off, good idea
    - The women looked much more eye-candy-esque than the men - the only clear leader I spotted out of them was Alesha Dixon - she looked sharp. Stephanie Beacham looked like she was about to fall over, and God only knows what evil person chose Letitia Dean's outfit for her...

I liked Craig's comments that it was "more camp than this show".

Agreed - she seemed to be the only one dancing in time to the music - and when she and Kelly B were walking toward the camera at the start of the dance, it was as if Kelly wasn't there - she was just blitzed away.

Yes - pink nursery pudding on legs springs to mind.

ETA - I also liked Stephanie B's motherly 'advice' to Kelly about 'flashing'.

Re: Strictly Come Dancing 2007: Week 1

Hey its week one. Maybe I've become too 'Cerocified' but at this stage I was looking for people having fun as much as being too precise. Therefore I liked Dom & Lilia as he was really giving it a go and having fun.

And yes, I saw potential in Matt, was disappointed in Gethin and none of the rest were too outstanding. I think maybe a woman will win this year.

And I really like Kelly - for the simple reason that she was singing along with the words. That's what I do - just like me (OK, I wish I looked like that!). The fact that she was doing that also indicated she was relaxed and having fun.

Ooh, we have weeks and weeks of all this to look forward to. Great stuff!

Re: Strictly Come Dancing 2007: Week 1

Personally, I await the day when interest in these so called reality shows dwindles so that it's no longer something the TV companies want to broadcast.

It's not impossible that they may be replaced by something not unadjacent to entertainment! Wouldn't that be great!
