Another 'asking for a dance' experience

This was last night at Cheshunt:

After a couple of dances, I noticed a lady dancing nearby and then she sat down. Next record I asked her to dance and she replied:

"No - I am tired".
"You are too tired?"
"Yes I am tired"

This was at 9:45 (and Cheshunt goes on late.....). Then 2 records later, she started dancing again - and continued dancing through the night - always dancing with same partner - an old guy.

It was strange because, I am not sure why she said she was tired - clearly she wasn't! Why did she not just say "No - I only dance with this guy"....?

She didn't want to offend you by refusing outright? Clearly she thought that providingyou with a plausible reason was better. What she didn't think was how it would look when she started dancing with her regular partner...

I suspect there are a number of reasons, if I may play Inspector DT for a moment.

1. It's Cheshunt. Is it possible she had to change her incontinent pad or her wooden leg before dancing again and thought it would be easier to say she was tired?

2. She's so thick that she didn't realise that saying "I'm tired" and then dancing a few minutes later is actually more insulting and ignorant than saying "No thanks, You're shlt"

3. She thinks you're shlt.

Good question - which was discussed at length Chez Jive Lad.

Bottom line - it's about atmosphere and vibe - and so ultimately enjoyment......I do vary it (ie ntot just go to the same venues) - and will continue to do so......

Well yes... maybe you should have been at Ashtons.. also maybe you are just a sh*t dancer...

Either way, she got to dance with who she wanted to dance with, time to move on...

I got rejected last night , a girl who had done 2 classes, said no, she had just turned down Clinton 5 minutes ago, coz she was feeling unwell, although feeling better now, she should really seek out Clinton first to dance with...
We had a discussion where she did say, she is sure Clinton would not mind as he is a super advanced dancer and would understand all...

She still did not dance with me, so now I have a perminant complex
I must be crap, coz a 21 year old newbe, wants to not offend the current Aussie Masters champ, and turned me down for one dance..

You've misunderstood - so apologies that I did not make it clear. It wasn't the refusal itself - as the strange nature of it, which was unique in my experience.

I'm not sure what you are sad about - personally I'm very happy and I had a great night!

Maybe no I am tired, but not too tired to dance with my regular partner.

Maybe I am tired of having to say yes.

Maybe I am tired of being asked, I want to dance with my life partner.

Maybe I am tired of being a rag doll being thrown around, my partner does it so much better.

Maybe I do not know you, I am tired of people I do not know asking me, I want to dance with the person I know.

Err .... I'd love to, but seem to be the subject of an attack of the DTs, yet, yes, something's coming through the static ;-)

'Slow typing'? God, everythings slow or dysfunctional these days, and I'm sure it's you (plain speaking lady that you are) who could teach me a thing or two.

I've no problem with being called old, for I am rather, but you do seem to have a naughty little habit of referring to us in rather pejorative terms; employing such words as 'plain', 'stringy', 'incontinent', 'wooden legged', in this thread alone, and even more inventitiveley still across a number of threads I vaguely (oh yes, ever-so) recall.

But, I'm sure you have a heart of pure gold and don't mean any hurt.
