You can't choose how you feel. I may even think - I haven't worked it out yet - that you can't choose how you feel about anything. I think that the reaction part of the brain is more immediate than the reflection part of the brain.
That isn't to say that you can't reflect on something on which you experienced a knee-jerk reaction, and decide that it was wrong, but that's not the same thing.
Isn't it the case that you sit and reflect on something and discover how you feel about it, rather than choose to feel - betrayed, or relieved, or foolish?

I also loved my teenager years. I became all responsible and hardworking throughout my twenties, which I regret sometimes because my life lacked balance.
I get the impression that many teenagers nowadays have a lot of angst and that young people have a better time in their twenties with a bit more cash in their pockets and more freedom.
