Do you give more rep points for 'informative information' or for people being ‘funny’

I think I’ve only ever said one thing that was ‘informative’ on the forum when I went away and asked ceroc about something and came back and reported it

Ill try and be more informative

For those going to Southport road info

    but you're always funny Stewart.

.. In a naked man running round with a plastic spoon and a pink felt cowbay hat going "my yoghurt, my yoghurt, where have i misplaced it" kind of way, but funny none the less.

Funny. By a long margin. Three out of my last 20 reps were for being informative, 16 for being funny. Plus one -ve rep from Woodface for showing he was wrong about something - which shows being informative can have it's downsides...

Out of my last 20 reps:
    - 6 -ve reps in an attempt to keep me on nirvana-level.
    - 7 +ve reps in an attempt to keep me on nirvana-level.
    - 1 +ve rep for actual information (it slipped through)
    - the rest were "funny" ones

So yes, 95% funny / trivial, 5% information. Sounds about right for this place

Re: Rep for being funny or informative ?

Well, I have had a veritable bucketload of -ve rep this week, one of which was for 'Not funny' so some people clearly look for that. The fact it was for a purely factual post seems to have escaped the repper. Others (no names, no pack drill) were 'Yawn' - very descriptive, makes a change from eating I suppose and also 'I'm not loving the waste of space' - something to do with me having the temerity to include a few blank lines in a post before a smiley for (pretty poor admittedly) comic effect. So very tempting to tit for tat neg-rep but why descend to that pathetic level?

Looking at my last 20, I've had 14 for being funny, 2 for people agreeing with me about non-dance things, 1 in response to wishing someone a happy birthday, 2 for reasons I can't quite work out, and 1 for my taste in cheese. I exhausted my ability to post informatively about dancing years ago, so not surprising really. The week after smurfy, in fact

On the rep front, can the mods tell us which is the single most-repped post in the Forum's history? I've never had more than 4 reps for one post.

Re: Rep for being funny or informative ?

In the last 20, 7 are for being informative, the rest are for being funny, or for saying something that has been encouraging or supportive of someone else or their post.

I think I've only ever got - rep once, for a post where I was being a bit critical of GetaGrip!

I know I got a ridiculous amount of rep for the original David Jones' Diary post - I count over 20 reps when I click on the scales for it, but I don't know if there's a cutoff.

Also, looking at my User CP, of the last 20 reps, there were six for this Lolcat post.

I'm wondering if thetruth is I should resurrect that diary...

It's difficult to categorise exactly why you've received a rep comment. However I've tried.

15 out of my last 20 reps were for being informative
    1 was for being funny
3 were saying they'd miss me at Southport/Utopia
1 was a negative rep from Martin Harper for not being Martin Harper

I conclude from this that I'm not very funny as I thought I spent much more time being funny than informative

And don't forget that with partner dancing comes partner rep. When the law of 10 prevents a repeat, you can count on the partner to step into the breach. When two minds become one indeed.

I don't think so - we can't see what posts are repped, although we can infer if required.

I'm sure Franck or Sheena could find out somehow, but it's a pretty pointless exercise.

Hey, I wasn't soliciting advertising, you know. Just trying to keep DJ otherwise occupied for about a week.

Lol, I give neg-rep on the merits of the post Rob and I'm not about to stop doing that just in case DT might have neg repped you recently.

Besides, you said you won't sink to the level of tit-for-tat neg-rep, so everyone is safe to neg-rep you as much as they like.

Seems UP's learning how to easily get neg-rep too .
