    itunes/laptop problem

I'd be very grateful if someone could help me sort out the following problem.

The C drive on my laptop was getting close to full so I moved all my itunes music to my empty D drive. I then discovered that itunes would not play the music anymore, telling me that the original file could not be found. I tried to remedy the position by moving the files back to my C drive where they were originally, but I'm still getting the same message that the original file can not be found.

Is there any way that I can get the music to play again, or am I going to have to spend many hours ripping my CDs onto the laptop again? I do have back up CDs, but only for around 2000 of the 4500 tracks on my laptop.

If it is not possible to resolve the laptop issue, is it possible to upload all the music back from my ipod?

    Many thanks.

    Google groups search found:

    iTunes can...

    1. move files to the iTunes music folder
    2. simply remember where the files already are
Both can be considered "bringing in" but are markedly different and
whichever is done is a choice made by the user.

I also found that itunes can scan your computer for music files.

I would think that a scan for files, leaving them where they are, might solve your problem.

The problem is certainly fixable without re-ripping. You may have to re-import the files into iTunes though if you can't get it to find them.

In the iTunes preferences you can tell iTunes where to keep the music it *copies* into its music folder, if you've told it to do so.
