I tried this test & came out with INFP, which is pretty much what I always score. Depending on life stage, I flitter between I & E, and I was "slightly I" this time. I scored lower on N than usual, though. It wasn't too far off for me, but it didn't seem as thorough as some of the other tests I've done.

Aside from the one in the book I referred to, I've only ever done the MBTI 'proper' one. (Though I have done it 3 times.)

It wasn't just the results, I thought some of the questions were a bit too 'obvious' - ie too easy for someone to select what they would like to be... I know there is an element of that in all such tests, but it seemed especially an issue in this one.

It was almost as if someone had started from descriptions of the types and worked backwards to come up with a test - but without understanding how the 4 spectrums work.

At least, that's how it came across to me, I'm not a trained psychologist though!

As a rational thinking type I am highly sceptical about all such tests, and would want to subject the answers to detailed study and analysis.

So, what does the detailed write up say about me?

    "Mastermind!".

    Its accurate.

It does pick Programming and Information technology as amongst my ideal careers.

That is totally spooky. Maybe we're twins.

I think this test is a bit obvious. Some of the questions seemed to be asking you things like "Are you extrovert?" and "Do you think about things?". They're almost asking you for the answers.

    See - that explains everything!!

Extrovert (I do my thinking and processing of the world externally - dance is a big part of this)
iNtuitive (I see the big picture rather than the detail - I like performing!)
Thinking (I sometimes miss the sensitivities of others because I am just being sensible or stating the obvious!)
Jugemental (Decisive, planned and not good at changing direction quickly!)

Me too, I came out as ENTJ, but the T was only 1%, does that count?
Maybe I only think 1% of the time

    Re: Myers-Briggs and dancing

I'm an ENFP - was when 'properly' checked on long MBTI questionnaire and in a shorter test a few months ago. As it relates to dancing ... think it probably affects what we like about dancing and how/why we do. I like 'playing' and having a happy partner - the latter part definitely stems from the E part - being externally motivated. I'm also rubbish at remembering the names of moves and at the opposite end of the spectrum from a move monster. So perhaps there are correlations between styles of our MJ dancing (even the fact that I'd prefer to freestyle rather than a routine) and why we dance.

When MBTI was discussed on a photography forum, a HUGE proportion of people on the poll were ENFPs, so perhaps there's a correlation between creativity and type.

    Re: Myers-Briggs and dancing

    You are:

    * moderately expressed introvert 54% - This is shown everywhere except on the dancefloor!

    * slightly expressed sensing personality Only 1% - what happened??

    * slightly expressed feeling personality - 12% Still puzzled

    * moderately expressed judging personality - 33% Didn't want to be over 25% on this one

At least the jobs seem fairly sensible for me - I trained as a librarian and although I work in an open plan office - I block most of the chatter out with headphones.

I would love to specialise even further into curation / conservation and all of these jobs are specifically named as good areas for me. Yay

This is where the terms are misleading - the J-P (I don't even want to say Judging-Perceiving) have nothing at all to do with 'judging' but is more to do with eg how you view future plans. Do you like things to be planned, orderly and prepared well in advance? Do you like decisions to be made? Then you are J. Do you prefer things to be open ended, not finally decided and optional? Then you are P. Its more about whether you like things to be decided and planned, or flexible and able to change your mind.

Likewise the E-I - you can be quiet and seemingly 'reserved' but still be an E - if you like to be around people, have lots of friends, stay late at parties. Likewise you can be confident up in front of people, but be an I - needing time to yourself and valuing a few close friends over a wide social circle.

Remember these don't describe your behaviour or determine how you will act in any given situation. They simply express your preferences for how you feel comfortable acting and thinking about things.

I was looking into what it measn to be an INFP.. found this on Wiki (where else )
INFP - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Introverted Sensing (Si): This function gives INFPs a natural inclination toward absent-mindedness, and makes them more easily distracted.
Yeah That sounds like me.. I was just saying to Louise this morning that.. ... oh look at the pretty rainbow... erm.. where was I?

Ah OK - in which case 33% for judging is too low - I just abhor being disorganised and will usually be half an hour early for everything (I get so much more reading done that way )

Glad that makes it clearer - also illustrates why its easier to use the letters and work from the 16 types, than try to read anything into the percentages on the individual letter scorings.

Its funny as I'm P but I love my packing lists when going away on holiday, which is a very J thing! But - my packing list is a guideline, its not fixed and I usually decide at the last minute that I want to change what I am taking. For me, the packing list is because of my memory, not because I want to have it all organised - and it gives me the flexiblity to change things.

And of course its the combination that is important - not just the individual letters (a reason why the scoring of individual letters being the 'results' of the online test is misleading).

Our jobs or personal situations also often require us to behave in a way different to our preferences by type - that's OK because type is just our preferences. But understanding our type can be helpful in recognising that.

I know what you mean. I did my first Myers Briggs test when I was working for HP - they were thinking about forming project teams based on personality types. Oh, the Dot Com boom days when companies would throw money around....

p.s. Andy's definitely the evil twin. Maybe we could combine you into one person, like the twins in the last Big Brother... they were Sam & Amanda - Samanda. You could be Lyndy....

    Re: Myers-Briggs and dancing

    I got Extroverted 11%
    Intuitive 12%
    Feeling 25%
    Judging 1%

    Which means I am:
    • slightly expressed extravert
    • slightly expressed intuitive personality
    • moderately expressed feeling personality
    • slightly expressed judging personality
    That’s me….sitting on a fence
