Where do all the ex-ambulances end up?

    Quick question.

I'm looking to pick up an ex-ambulance to convert to a camper.

[electrics and lights in, water possibly, some cupboards, should be good for a few thousand miles]

Any ideas where I might look for one?

I believe that some car auction places have them [big one in Merthyr Tydfyl ... long way away ]

Maybe I could ask at a hospital

Do all goverment stuff get dealt with by the one operation? [I heard that MOD deals with disposing of lots of government stuff, both civil and military]

    Any ideas?

    You could look on ebay. I rather like the sound of this one. Especially these features;

    PIPED 02
    PIPED ENTONOX
    INBUILT SUCTION UNIT

I've no idea, but if you join two together and fit it with a cocktail bar, would that make it a stretchered limo?

Sorry, I'll just get my white coat before you get too 'cross' with me

    Good luck the hunt

Actually, I'd have thought that was not too far from the truth. Old fire engines are bought up for the hen night rituals (I've seem them trundling round Glasgow on a Friday night) - how about something similar based on ambulances for the lads, replete with *ahem* nurses?

Not been done yet? Right - off to fill in my Dragon's Den application form...I'm sure Theo, Peter, Duncan and that other guy will be "in" once we've done the sales pitch

Suddenly the "inbuilt suction" seems like an essential feature

It's not a "she". Because the answer "only 10 years old, never raced or rallied" would be too scary to contemplate...

Here's a zany, crazy, off-the-wall idea... why not just buy a camper van? Or is that too simple?

Better to buy an ambulance for £3000 and spend £1500 converting it to do something it wasn't designed for?

I have no idea where the old ambulances end up besides the usual quips.. but i know there is one a couple of streets down from me that has been converted likewise!

Good luck in finding one for your quest!

    xx

Well, in an attempt to win an award for Most Laboured Joke in History, you could buy it, get one of the side panels replaced with glass, and put your koi carp inside.
