When my son was born he was bald, things got worse, he went not so much ginger but as the wife says... strawberry blond .

Prior to my son having the same colour hair as a certain vergertable i had no problem taking the p*ss. Now on the other hand i dont, the wife wont let me.

My father is quite a 'fair' ginger (that's strawberry blonde, right?) and some of it has come off in me...my hair is usually dark brown but in certain lights (generally a summer evening) the red comes out. And any facial hair I decide to grow is 1 part red to 2 parts brown. So what am I, a hybrid?

no your lucky, you have natural highlights. I pay a fortune to get that colour mix.

Quite a few years ago now a gay friend looked closely at my hair one night and asked quizzically “do you colour your hair?”

“No!” I replied – quite insulted. “Hmm, that’s a very expensive colour you’ve got there” he responded

Sadly, these days some of those highlights are not quite as reddish as they used to be and my hairdresser has to help out a bit

Apparantely its all down to the genes. Two brown haired/blonde haired parents could have a ginger baby out of the blue. If there is a ginger gene in the family, it can come out at anytime. It just needs the two genes from both sets to match together which is rare but does happen as we know.

My brother has a hint of ging in his beard, any of us three could have been ginger as we do have ginger in the family....... mind you, father of my kids is arabic, no ginger there so i deffo wasn't gonna end up with a ginger baby but if my kids marry a partner that has ginger in their genes as i have it in my family, they too could drop a ginger. So it goes on and on and on...

Re: Do we as a society mistreat ginger people?

Ok, so I'm ginger (figures... ). Had some (minor) name calling at school but nothing I would call real bullying . As I got older I have only had positive comments (well, to my face anyway... ).

Fair skin, a few (cute) freckles, hey it comes with the territory, although this kind of skin does mean I look rather pink within minutes on the dance floor. Not a good look, but by then I'm way past caring

I also saw the programme Trouble refers too and was most interested to hear from fellow ginger folk about their own experiences. Why is it that for some bizarre unknown reason it seems OK-ish to be a ginger girl, but apparently not OK to be a ginger guy? The mind boggles.

I love my hair colour and am in fact proud of it. And I get loads of special attention when I travel to countries where my colouring is rare if not non-existent. They absolutely love it!!

We're all different colours and different creeds and I for one think that's a wonderful thing and makes the world a far more interesting place
