    Christmas shopping

Has anyone notice any Christmas stuff in the shops yet ? I notice Harrods put some stuff in a while back

Sitting at the station this morning if felt like mid October (for South East England) or August (Scotland) and im sure stuff will start appearing soon , if it hasn’t already

People with coats done up winter now must be on its way . good bye ‘summer’

    Thanks global warming

There's plenty of places asking you to book your Christmas dinner already! I organised the office one last year, and about a month ago I got a pack from the restaurant with their menus in for this year. In July. That's just depressing.

The first charity catalogue dropped through the door last week.

I also had to go and visit a Christmas Tree farm last week for work and things are in full swing there for Christmas

NEXT put out Christmas cards as soon as the summer sale was over. I actually complained - 4th August is ridiculous! I'm all for choice and shopping time (I am the original shopaholic after all ) but am of the opinion that Christmassy things should be kept out of the way until after 11th November - I find Christmas lights hanging up over the Poppy Day services somehow tasteless.

Christmas. Tcha! It is August. Please take note, AUGUST. That's the one that comes before September, October and November, not to mention December. It is still summer, for any sake!

It is too early, repeat TOO EARLY to mention Christmas, let alone Christmas shopping.

Bah! Humbug! Bah! Humbug! Bah! Humbug!

(I trust I am making my sentiments clear)

Now where did that Grinch go?

Only when I have walked out of the exam hall for the last time during the second week of December will I even start to contemplate the idea of Christmas. By then the pre-christmas sales would have started

I believe he found the spirit of Christmas and ended up bringing seasonal joy to the Who's who lived in Whoville under his mountain cave...

Yes one year found out to my cost most shops shut at 4pm Christmas eve, sorry sis. True story

The funny thing is many people do buy Christmas stuff in August/September etc

I don’t know what the exact figures are but doesn’t Harrods sell half its Christmas stuff before December ?

    For me

    August

Id ban the word ‘Christmas’ being mentioned before September (accept on this forum)

    September

You cant say anything to do with Christmas however ‘planners’ may mention it

    October

Want to see nothing but pumpkin pies and witches and irritating kids that knock on your door

    November

Ok after fireworks night id allow shops to put Christmas stuff in their windows and store

    December

BAN this really annoys me all ‘SALES’ before boxing day
Farther Christmas can start from 1st December
    Have a proper white Christmas

Now im off to buy some cheap Christmas cards

    Re: Christmas shopping

I try not to think about Christmas before my birthday, at the end of November.

This year is an exception though, as Beo and I have already talked about who is going to travel where and when - work permitting. Have to, if we don't want to pay a fortune for fligths and see each other over the Christmas period.

Clearly you have to do things like that and I know plant centres start planning for Christmas in the January but…..

Ps has anyone ever bought a settee that wasn’t in a ‘sale’

    Re: Christmas shopping

I'm afraid I am a planner - I never have enough time in November or december and the streets are full of panic buyers... I would much rather buy things for people whenever I find them... If that means in the January sales (I've done it before ) then so be it... I think I've got six or so of my family so far.

I totally agree about the Christmas decorations though - should never start before December and I think they should leave the non Christmas lights on to Cheer up january and February - (asa it is still horribly dark)(I'm thinking of Exchange Square little lights if anyone can find a pic?)
