Thank you. Though you've still failed to cite, because there's more than one Lao Wai in the world.

Did you ask his permission to reproduce his thoughts without attribution?

Finally, there is a clear lack of perspective in the smoking debate, a factor most clearly illustrated by the anti-smokers' complaint that James Bond, in the 2002 film Die Another Day, was seen smoking a cigar (in Cuba!). The fact that they had no problem with 007 having casual, unprotected sex, driving dangerously fast or being in possession of a loaded gun (with intent to kill!) reveals more about their narrow-mindeded obsession than it does about the dangers of smoking.

Oh well, I guess if Franck and the mods don't care about copyright then I shouldn't care either.
    Take care.

You can quote any facts you like and ill come back with more if you dont like them so be it
What are you on about? I like all facts.
my records show 345 service men who smoke at Flanders age 17 by 1975 had
die lingering, miserable, humiliating and painful deaths from emphysema, lung cancer, bronchitis and so on...
I 'spect you go the decimal poynt in the wrong place, thar!
[QUOTE]Records also show 3456 service men who smoke at Flanders age 17 by 1975 had die lingering, miserable, humiliating and painful deaths from Irritating mother in laws[QUOTE]
    ...and thar!

    {snip stuff about wrinkly puffers}

Ever heard of the Texas sharpshooter fallacy? Guy visits his neighbour and sees a bunch of targets drawn on the side of his barn. Every one has a neat bullet hole in, plumb dead centre.
"Hey, Abner", he says "you shore are one helluva sharpshooter!"
"Naw-w," says Abner, with a big grin. "I done painted the targets after I shot the barn!"

That's what's happening every time you take an elderly, undead smoker and suggest that there is more than a simple statistical significance to their existence. You have to balance them alongside the millions who've died, during their lifetime, of smoking-related diseases. Then you can draw conclusions from their existence.

Hmmm, is it worth taking up smoking so I can give it up and live longer?

Absolutely - you have the copyright to anything you create and publish. Whether such copyright is enforceable, that's a different question.

As MartinHarper says, it's good practice to put attribution in, to phrase quotes explicitly as quotes and so on. But I'm not bothered about it to the level of editing posts - AFAIK it's good practice rather than a mandatory rule.

The key to a long life is happiness. Otherwise what's the point. Who wants to live forever being miserable?

The Key to a Long life is keeping a balance / perspective on things.

Sh1t happens in life, it's a gimme, and we all experience it. Making mountains out of molehills will stress and upset a person both pysically and mentally (believe me I know)

I now keep a level head (and yes before people who know me on here say it, I DO lose my rag!!)

If it happens it happens. c'est la vie

Re: The key to a long life

A priest entered his donkey in a race and it won.
The priest was so pleased with the donkey that he entered in another race and it won again.
The local paper read: PRIEST'S ASS OUT FRONT.
The Bishop was so upset with this kind of publicity that he ordered
the priest not to enter the donkey in any more races.
The next day the local paper headline read: BISHOP SCRATCHES THE PRIEST'S ASS
This was too much for the Bishop, so he ordered the priest to get rid of the donkey.
The priest decided to give it to a nun in a nearby convent.
The local paper, hearing of the news,
Posted the following headline: NUN HAS THE BEST ASS IN TOWN.
    The Bishop fainted.
He informed the nun that she would have to get rid of the donkey so
she sold it to a farmer for $10.
The next day the headlines read: NUN SELLS ASS FOR $10.
This was too much for the Bishop, so he ordered the nun to buy back
the donkey and lead it to the high plains where it could run free.
The next day the headlines read: NUN ANNOUNCES HER ASS IS WILD AND FREE.

Alas ... The Bishop was buried the next day.
    MORAL OF THE STORY???

    And even shorten your life.
So, be yourself and enjoy life.

Stop worrying about everyone else's ass and you'll live longer.

My figure of 120,000 was not referenced because I thought it was so well known. I was slightly out, the figure on the ASH website is 114,000. If you are still a smoker follow the link below for a reasonably full list of the illnesses you can expect

Smoking Statistics: Illness and death - Factsheet no.2 - ASH

The government are still hypocrites. They spend a fortune trying to prevent diseases like aids when 234 people a year die from it. A huge proportion of the population are killing themselves by smoking and our govenments answer is to ask them to do it outside so it doesn't trouble the rest of us
