Re: Sunday Freestyles / Tea Dances

There were three local T-dance things on Sunday I knew of - Berko, Fulham (Jive Nation) and Putney (Ceroc).

berko was fine - very very very hot, but that was to be expected.

Did anyone go to any of the others?

What was the Ceroc one all about? I only heard about that on Sunday...

I received an e-mail about Putney, but couldn't go unfortuantely. There were supposed to be workshops and then a freestyle to launch the fact that it's been refurbed and is now open on Sunday evenings. I think it was by invitation only, and free. Why do they always do these things on days when I can't make it

Simon's bash looks like good fun, with all sorts of nonsense going on .

I don't live in London, but is Putney close to Fulham?
Would this be coincidence, do U think?

Re: Sunday Freestyles / Tea Dances

Sunday tea dances are the perfect way to spend an otherwise lazy afternoon, especially in the fall when the weather is gloomy and you don't really want to be outdoors (not that this summer has exactly been great weather-wise...)

Ashtons used to hold Sunday tea dances at the beginning of last year but then stopped . I'm not sure if this was because the numbers weren't high enough? Anyway, it would be awesome if there were some chilled out Sunday afternoon alternatives to the boat in London!!!!

Nah, it's because no-one in their right mind wants to spend a Sunday afternoon in sunny Cricklewood, it's a dump.

Ha! But what does it matter if you are going to be indoors anyway? Anyway, if it's a matter of location then why would people want to spend a Friday night in Cricklewood? Hmmmm??

I guess it's a question of atmosphere? Even if you're staying inside all day, you still have to see the surroundings in daylight, and Cricklewood's really not pretty.

Also, a selling point of some Tea Dances seems to be about being able to get outside if required - e.g. HMS President, the T-Jive, etc.

Coz it's dark and you can't see what it's like? It's like the location-equivalent of beer goggles I guess

Hmm... There's something happening that weekend, but I can't remember what...

Ms Hips is off on holiday the next day, so maybe that's it...

    Hope we can make it.

Thank you Minnie We've found T-dances are great fun but not a very good business proposition. If you're only in it for the money you wouldn't do them. By the time you've bought the cakes, papers, drinks and made the sandwiches you've spent quite a lot of money. But you still can't charge much for an afternoon dance and your expenses are much more than an evening dance. Of course, I love them because you can play a more chilled set

On the subject of Sundays, I made a decision about 3 months ago to start a night I've given the working title "Smooth Sundays". My basic plan is that it's for experienced dancers, there's just one lesson and then 2 hours of freestyle to smooth tunes. I've been inviting people to come up with a better name as an alternative to "Smooth Sundays" - all people have done is said "I'm looking forward to the smooth Sundays"

Now I've got to consider what I do about tea dances. The "Smooth Sundays" are in the same venue we use for tea dances. Should we run one straight into the other and have dancing from 2pm-10.30pm? Can I think up 8 hours of suitable music?

And, finally, does anybody have a suggestion for an alternative name to "Smooth Sundays"?
