Re: When it comes to it...

Perfect qualities in no particular order...

    1. ability to dance
    2. mind-reading abilities when even I don't know what I'm trying to do!
    3. perfect dance technique
    4. brings her own input to the dance
    5. musicality

    And the worst qualities...

    1. lacks any sense of rhythm
    2. total lack of co-ordination
    3. has hygiene "issues"
    4. does not follow
    5. confidence problems (too much as well as too little)

Oh, forgot the most important quality – the perfect partner is fun to dance with!

Does number 4 on the worst qualities list mean I won't be getting any more dances Mezzo?!

Good point Twirly! I'd rather that the guys I dance with don't have 'stiffis'. Mind you, a certain person used to try to make sure I had to ahem adjust my position before I left the dance floor.

Any chance a friendly mod could give this thread a title that related at least vaguely to the topic under discussion?

It is surprising but having a dance partner allows you to learn more about yourself and each other than all the hours spent on the dancefloor...

    Stiffs ??

I have never danced with a dead person before although some of them may have given up the will to live, either before or during the dance. absolutely no feedback there, either way!

Seriously, i take your point about spaghetti arms and stiff arms. Personally i would opt for the the spaghetti arms as the lesser of the two, at least you do not get the impression that you are hurting them. With a stiff, there is no fluidity and you get the feeling that you are yanking them.

Re: When it comes to it... Top 5 qualities in a dance partner (and worst 5)

    The Best

    1. Fun and can have a laugh

    2. Ability whether realised or potential

    2. Inspiring and can bring a completely fresh look to dance

    3. Respect what you bring to the partnership and can work together as a team and listen to what you can contribute. Maturity about being a partner. A dance partnership will share alot of the elements of a relationship whether you are in a relationship or not. I am thankful for the opportunity to learn more as a person from this experience

    4. Someone you can work together with. You are both there for the same reason share and help each other. Both man and woman need to praise each other

    5. Not afraid to ask for help from dancers better than themselves and can respect their opinion

    6. As an addition to the five have a good work ethic. We all have potential but if we don't put in alot of hard work then we won't get anything out. As well as being talented I think the most successful partnerships are the ones who have worked extremely hard for their gains.

    7. Reliable. This includes the commitment of regular practise

    The worst

    1. Doesn't suffer from massive mood swings

    2. Immature and argumentative. Getting to know someone and find a place mentally where you can share dancing while juggling the rest of your life is quite an ask

    3. Not be jealous when you freestyle with other women or alientate you from your friends because they now claim complete ownership on you

    4. Manipulative

    5. Chip on their shoulder or baggage

I can't remember how long it's been since I started dancing it must be hitting ten years now but am thankful for the experiences learnt through having a dance partner. It has made me a stronger person.

One day I would love to find a partner and dance, do competitions and teach with.

I am very lucky to have friends that I can trust their opinion. Sometimes you need those friends like family that have the experience and or wisdom to guide you. It is difficult to step out and get a good perspective of your partnership. Friends can help you see what you can't because you are too close.

There's always exceptions to a rule! Anyway as long as a smoker doesn't smell consistently of cigarette's its fine - I just don't like the smell!! And you KNOW I love dancing with you BTW are we dancing this evening?

I got one guy who ask me to dance last week at Rugby, and he had all 5 worse qualities. strunk of smoke, smelt so bad I had to hold my breath, he had no rythem,no connection with the eyes, not that I would want to, and it was the longest 3mins for me, and my friend had the bad luck to dance with him and said more or less the same thing to me and that was at the beginning of the evening

The worst thing for you would be if they didn't have mood swings? Wow, you're the tolerant and understanding guy every woman has always been looking for!
    2. Immature and argumentative.
    No, I'm not!
