Firstly...
Do you still have the box your PC came in?![]()
Okies, here we go...
A proxy server is usually used in business environments to control internet access. If you are at home then you are almost certainly not using a proxy server.
However some Antivirus and malware protection tools will use proxy server technology to protect you. You can see if this is the case by looking in Internet Explorer, under Tools, Internet Options, Connections. Lan Connections if you are using something connected to your network card, or the Settings next to the dial up connection listed.
If you have a personal firewall installed then that can also block the connections - but it should be prompting you to allow (or not) the connected to the relevant ports. However you may have configured your firewall software not to prompt for blocking ports which means you will not know that you need to change something.
Have you looked at the Napster help page? Help me
Most mobile phone data services impose their own "transparent" proxy between you and the internet. Don't know the solution, but this might be your problem.
