Camber Sands - End of an era?

I have heard that the Pontins at Camber Sands may be closing next year and that are going to build houses on the site.

    Has anyone heard this?

I have some truely great memories from that place and it is really handy as it is near London.

I have a brother who lives in glasgow but he doesn't dance so it will not bother him.

Handy for me though. Err well it has been and there are a lot of dancers in London and the South East.

I very much doubt it is closing.

Was in the local paper recently that they are re-developing it and giving it an overhaul.

Pontins Camber Sands is one of the busiest and profitable sites they have. Can't see them getting shot of it. It's not as if there is not enough green space to be built on in and around camber.

I can't imagine that they are closing, probably a re-vamp to keep up with Butlins at Bognor.

    {pure speculation} Perhaps this rumour is just a misunderstand and Pontin's just wants to build a few house-like chalets on the site. Alternatively, perhaps they are selling part of the land for houses to help them raise cash for a redevelopment. {/pure speculation}

Just found out from someone in the know (one of my old Hastings contacts).

They recently brought some land at the back for further development (a year or two ago) and have just resold a part of it to a developer who has got a development site that will overlap it. They still own some of the space but they dont have plans to use it yet.

There you go it was part right.

Re: Camber Sands - End of an era?

When DTS shouted out to me that Camber was shutting, i must admit, i felt a little tug at my heartstrings. I do hate Camber for a few reasons, the chalets are damp, the seagulls appear to have built in speakers inside their beaks, the seagulls wake up early every day and s5it over everything but for me thats the only downsides.

Camber was mine and sis's first weeekender and we had such good fun and have always enjoyed it. I hope they dont ever shut it.

    HI

never had a damp problem in the top chalets but know of this problem with Basic rooms.

Seagulls, yep they are louder than the music and yes the s5it, don't think they miss any car on the complex!!

    roll on November!!
thinks for many its was their first ever weekender experience plus its what Ceroc wanted part of so desperately!!
