    The end of CEROC...

It could be the end of dance classes.....

You can learn everything online here er....except any form of jive...yet anyway. Surely its only a matter of time...

Surely an online video is better than a dodgy teacher...you know - those "independent types" and the like ...

This does make me wonder though, how much anyone ever gets from videos - has anyone ever learned to dance without a real teacher ? I'm sure its possible, but it would require some dedication and a partner to learn with.

I hate to say this... But I learnt an awful lot from a certain forumites Beginners Blues DVD and I've never done a blues class in my life.

That said I would RATHER see the teacher in the flesh and be taught in a class environment. I only learnt from the DVD as I had a Partner to practice with (Twirly) at the time. Watching them by yourself their use is limited.. perhaps as an aide memoir. An online service would be interesting but wouldn't replace a regular dance class. IMHO

if I had the time and the money.. and the choice I would have went to the recent Blues weekender rather than watching the DVD. DVD is all well and good, but you can't beat a good teacher in person (not unless you use a nice big stick)

And despite all the agro posts here I know that "that certain forumite" is a darned fine teacher !

This has been another boring post from Borewulf

Assuming we are talking about Rocky - I've heard very good things about him too. Yes I had a bad experience, but I wouldn't have mentioned it on here but to put his superior attitude into perspective and back-up his honest claim that people do tend to be sycophantic. It could well have been a one off, and certainly, he gets compliments often. As I discussed recently with theTramp, peoples opinions of teachers differ greatly, and sometimes, while you may get what you're looking for, others feel the teacher has nothing to offer them. If ONLY you could please "all of the people, all of the time"

I learned to jive just by watching others, copying and experimenting. I never heard of a class or any formal teaching of "Trad jive", dancing to Traditional Jazz bands.

Quick save that post for posterity. I was joking.. I have nothing against Rocky per se.. he does wind me up occasionally but it's just a big game with you two I think Have never heard anything negative about his teaching and as I said I would have loved to have gone to the weekender he did in Glasgow recently.. although I may have had to go under a pseudonym

Oh sorry TRAD jive.. thought that said TRIAD jive.. what;s that.. dancing with Axe's and swords?

I think online systems like that one and Jiveoholics site (link escapes me at the moment) are great as are DVD's (and I have to be brown nosed and sycophantic here a little but the Ceroc ones are great.. but then I've not bought any other ones to compare with) . but they will never replace the in class experience IMHO.

This coming from the guy that rarely dances mind you

Well, the current UK Strictly Swing (Novice) Champions learnt from DVD. It must take serious effort. I can't imagine it is nearly as much fun as doing classes.

I think you can actually learn more from DVD's but its boring. The class learning is so much more fun and i would think DVD's are great if you wanna put some sort of routine together or learn some different moves.

At the end of the day though socialising is a big part of the dance scene for most and if we all sat at home learning, we would not meet each other.

Although saying that, the forum has played a big part in getting a lot of people together that would not normally have met i think.
