As do Dell, HP, and Toshiba, to name three other large producers of laptops.

When I buy a laptop I only ever look at Sony, not that I'm a "label" snob but just something about Sony make me want to buy their products! Doesn't help that they're twice as expensive either!

In my experience Sony laptops are great – until they break, which they will do... Usually about a month out of warranty.

Dealing with Sony support to get a repair has been a bit like pulling teeth, though they have got better in recent years.

And like you say, they are expensive – even more so than Apple. I recently bought a guy a Apple MacBook to run Windows as it was the cheapest "small" laptop we could find.

Go on.... you know you want to

Besides - the new Dell desktop machine they've ordered for me at work arrives soon. Might as well know what I'm in for

They are a nightmare to work on if they brake. 99% of IT people are idiots and by Dell. FK Why. They are overpriced and cack. Poorly built in sweat shops in Asia use dirt cheap components. Bundle Lexmark printers and have off shored customer services that don't have a clue about anything (thats when you have finally got through to them. My record is an hour 15 to try and get a machine sent back that was increctly sent to us. Turned out I got put through to the wrong dept anyhow!).

I was reminded of a moment from my inglorious past last week. When my computer shop was having difficulty getting supplies I bought a batch of cheap Electron computers to sell, mostly to annoy the Electron dealer down the road who had ripped me off. They were all stolen. My quote to the newspaper reporter was printed, and gave me some unintended revenge.

The thieves got away with ten Electron computers. Nothing of value was stolen.
To match the intelligence of someone who would steal them, the thief was caught after he tried to sell them back to us.

They made the BBC micros, didn't they? Wonderful machines.

And, of course, the original machine Elite came out on. A game still demanding a worthy successor, even after two decades or so....

Amen to that !! I still have my corp char on there somewhere. I should really reinstall.. spend 2 days downloading all the updates that have popped up in the last couple of years , spend a further 2 days trying to remember my user name and password then several weeks getting to grips with all the UI changes

Graphically it's fantastic, and game play.. WOW !! puts other MMORPGS to shame !!

as for Elite.. I loved that game. Loved my old BBC Master too.. wrote my first "proper"* games on that.

*I.e my first 3d Maze game.. My First RPG and my first text adventure ah the good old days !
