I don't want to interrupt the players in their own thread, so I ask here...
Mornington Crescent – why???
Let your mind go and your body will follow. – Steve Martin, LA Story
Why not?
Loving the MJ version, though the variations seem to be as complex as some of the moves!
It isnt true!! LMAOIt's a pointless game with basically no rules.
As Humphrey Lyttelton says:[the rulebook is maintained with] inimitable accuracy by the lovely Samantha, who sleeps with it under her pillow. As it now runs to 17 volumes, she is running out of pillows.
Yes it is.. but the Attraction is not in the playing as such. It's the people who don't realise "the rules" who come in half way and try to figure out what's going on
When I first encountered Mornington Crescent on another forum I was directed to a website with the officially sanctioned tournament rules and they made my head hurt. Then I realised the game isn't really about getting to Mornington Crescent.. it's about seeing how long you can string poor noobs like I was along with the ride
(This explanation is a valid move under the 1986 Monaco tournament rules as ratified by Woodcock, Ramble and Bradbury - Mornington Crescent Ruling committee 12th June 1985)
It is all in the way it is done Ducasi, For it is always played with Panache, great style and a lot of humour
The Wikipedia entry is worth a read. I didn't realise that Mornington Crescent was not the original "in-joke" game, being predated by, among others, Star Trek, The Monkees, and The Goodies. Personally, among in-joke games, I always preferred Go Johnny Go Go Go. So much greater potential for violence.
Also, by taking a Wikijourney from the article, I have become a convert to the Church of the Invisible Pink Unicorn.
The only aspect which interests me about the current Ceroc variant, is that no-one appears to have defined the winning move. For all that MC is an in-joke, it does have a genuine and commonly-known winning move...
Oh good grief.
Its just a bit of fun. Some of us were enjoying it, a bit of light relief from mundane work.
If you didn't want to join in you didn't have to, instead of trying to ruin it for those who were.
I noticed that too, I just thought DJ was keeping it a secret so that he could win!

It's a joke.. no bitterness etc in it.. I laughed when I found out "the rules"
Besides a comment like yours allows me to play the Moderators Cresent- Harperlink attack
Can't be - it was disallowed when I played it, under the 1987 AngeLau rules, even though no-one other than DJ takes them that seriously. And no variation ever disallows the winning move.
