Southport weekender isn't physically addictive, but a psychological dependence (when you feel that you cannot do without something) can occur. With frequent use of weekenders, tolerance can build up so that more weekenders have to be used to get the same effect.
On stopping use, some people feel depressed and tired. However, these feelings lessen with time
DJ - what you say about nicotine being physically addictive is of course true. But someone else above has said that it actually doesn't take the body very long to get over that addiction. However, as is clear from some posters on this thread, there is something else going on which means that even years after the smoker has kicked the physical addiction, there is still a hankering to smoke. This, presumably, is where the addictive personality type can come in, and is why there are a very few people who seem to be able to have the occasional smoke without having to puff away on them daily/hourly, whilst for others just being around smoke reminds them of the smoking behaviour they are addicted to, and therefore encourages them to start up again.
And yes, for some people, presumably with this type of personality, dancing could be addictive - have read in several places about people becoming addicted to the endorphin rush they get from going to the gym. Same thing.
