Well, that's the closest I've ever got to being blown up or insulted. Well, actually, I've been insulted many times, but I had to get an Adams quote in here somehow. I flew out of Glasgow bound for Shetland 3 hours before someone tried to deliver some propane gas on Saturday. Must have thought I needed a turbo boost for the prop job I was on.
Anyway, let me reassure everyone, there's no chance of a terrorist getting in via Sumburgh Airport in the Shetlands. Both my bags got thoroughly emptied on the way back, there were more baggage security staff than people getting on the plane, and a fair sized vehicle exclusion zone round the terminal building. So it all felt very safe.
Until you recall the teensy-weensy flaw in the security arrangements. Thing is, in order to get to Sumburgh Airport's terminal building, you have to drive across the end of the runway, because the public road crosses it . So if anyone wanted to drive a bomb-laden van into the terminal building, the security services have helpfully pointed out to the nutters a very good route. Which has the added benefit of letting them accelerate up to a ton on good tarmac, before smashing into the terminal.
Honestly, if you didn't laugh, you'd cry...
