I think I'm increasingly confused by what happens in the world . Salman Rushdie is threatened with death for a book he writes. years later he is honoured with a knighthood for his very religiously open minded books, but this is taken as an insult.

He wrote some books and that makes him a "big criminal"

He is a muslim himself and yet the entire muslim world is insulted by his honour

The Speaker of the Punjab provincial assembly, Chaudhry Mohammad Afzal Sahi, said that he would kill Sir Salman Rushdie if he came face to face with him.

"Such blasphemers deserve death. Islam does not allow suicide attacks but it would be justified in the case of a blasphemer, who is worthy of death," he said.

So in other words, he would go against the very will of Allah to kill Sir Salman Rushdie....erm....

Yes - the 'Joy of Islam' is a new book which is a celebration of humanity: the diversity, the love, the laughing and happiness. The freedoms and equality. The openess to new ideas and argument and free expression.

Just read a summary of events on Wiki re: the Satanic Verses. Wiki's fallibility aside, if I thought it made no sense before, now I'm utterly bewildered. It makes scary reading
