"He's on the phone" by St. Etienne is a great dance track that has a sexy French bloke saying rude things down the phone in the middle.

There is also a French version of "Sunday Girl" by Blondie.

OT - I cannot see the name Celine Dion without thinking of the unfortunate songwriter who heard her singing a song of his in French. He found out that the track had been around for a long, long time, and he had not received a cent in royalties. He got onto the scent, trying to find out just how much he had been ripped off. His publisher finally confessed that he had licensed the song ages ago, and not bothed to mention it. After all it was just some unknown teenager. That was before Celine won Eurovision.

Unfortunately the performing rights company got the name wrong. The royalties were unclaimed, and being unclaimed for so long were lost. More important was that the songwriter had not had the use of her name to promote his songs. Every aspiring songwriter hopes for a big name to record one of their songs, it is a passport to getting them heard.

Further investigation revealed that his mis-spelt alter ego had also been racking up royalties from one Sarah Brightman. She had one of his songs on a concert sales only album.

Sometimes you can long to be a success, without knowing you are already a success.

Got properly introduced to Pink Martini by Firefly. Several of their tracks have been used at CEROC nights.

    Re: French tracks!

Les Moulins De Mon Coeur (Windmills of Your Mind) - Patricia Kaas does a version with a latin feel

DJ by Diam's is a French (female) rap version of "Sway"

While in France I heard, Mon Maquis by Alizée and liked it enough to track it down, but I've never heard it all the way through, (it is a bit moody like "china in your hand", but not as angst-ridden)

    Others that come to mind:
You Never Can Tell (C'est la Vie) Willie & The Poorboys,

April In Paris Cleo Laine or Ella Fitzgerald
