    Hows your been?

I know somewhere on here there is a thread about nuisance calls from Asian call centres but I cant find it.

I am so fed up with calls that go something like this:-

ring! ring! I pick up the phone and there is a few seconds silence followed by "good evening Miss Adams and hows your been" (or is it hows my bin).

I get them day and night!

The latest was "Miss adams are you having phone"? I shouted "no" and they hung up!

My answer phone gets full each week of "you have been seleted from thousands and have won a holiday - just call this £1 a minute to see how to claim this".

Please help me before I rip the phone out the wall

And if its not calls then its junk email offering me viagra and a penis enlargement.

Register for the Telephone Preferential Service - I think you can do it on line here

That should put an end to the majority of the cold calls.

    Hi

I also have this problem. Telephone Preferential Service will not help (I am also on the Fax Preferential Service, as well as the Mailing Preferential Service). The reason it won't help is it does not apply to International Calls, and that is why most operators of telesales now operate from overseas. I have caller ID on my system, and now simply ignore International Calls (all my friends and family use Skype for international stuff anyway), or allow the answering system to kick in and only answer if it sounds genuine.

I also get lots of Junk Fax calls on my landline which is a real pain when it comes in at 2:00am in the morning, and makes 6 attempts before it gives up.

It worked for me. I was getting a lot of sales calls, including international, and I don't now.

I should really add my name to the mail one though, as I hate junk mail. Its such a waste of paper, and I don't like to just chuck it in the bin, so I have to open it to put the envelope in the bin and the rest in recycling etc.

    Hi Lynn

I Spoke to BT about the Junk Fax and Telesales calls, and they said they could only stop via the Preferential Services UK based calls, and not do anything about international calls. This was a few years ago, perhaps I should try again.

    Re: Hows your been?

I started having those calls on my mobile. That was awful, actually, as because I didn't pick up immediately, they kept leaving the messages and being silent there! For a few quite scary times I thought I was having a stalker or some such...

This happens because the system calls you, but an operator doesn't come on the line - but the system stays connected to your ans machine or message service for a few moments.

Again, I don't seem to get those calls either. Well not much, I'm not saying I never get any cold sales calls from an automated system, but it wouldn't even be one a month and I can't remember the last time I got one.

    Re: Hows your been?

various agents from a specific company used to call me at least twice a day for a few weeks offerring me satellite tv.

the way that i stopped them was this-

    - Is this Mr "Raul"? (or whatever the open up with)
    - Just a second, i'll call him (or hey mate, there is a call for you!)

and i would put the phone down and leave them waiting. i'd hang up only when the phone starts making that funny noise.

They eventually got the message and stopped. You need to be a nuisance to them before they react, some of their own medicine.

I am sure that you can think of other ways to waste their time. These people work on results and anything to srew their statistics and production is going to bug them.

I am just downright rude to them. Where d'get the number from. well, delete it from there, and never call me again! That seems to do the trick, and I get the day's angst out of my system!

    Re: Hows your been?

When I used to get them I simply said immediately that I never buy anything over the phone or from a phone call. That often worked as they would usually say thank you and hang up.

The fact that I get rid of my day's angst makes me as "non-butter-melting" as my avatar by the time I am ready to go out dancing, Raul... Or not!...

    Really????

All the ones I get, just keep talking even though I keep repeating 'No thanks, I am really not interested'. They're still talking as I hang up the phone...

I've also registered with the Telephone Preferential Service , but it's only helped to stop the British calls. I stil get the 'Allo? Missi Holllett? You been selected as a winner of XXXXXXX' etc.

    I hate sales calls!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Re: Hows your been?

I got one once.. From a mobile phone provider. At first they stated they were doing a survey on my mobile phone usage (and not being awake at the time I believed them) but soon it became apparent it was a sales call.

Anyway the conversation took a turn for the surreal which resulted in them never calling me back.

"So tell me Mr Little, how much would you say you spend on your monthly tariff?"
"Oh about £10" (this was a while ago)
"£10? That's not really an awful lot mr Little. Are you sure that's all you use?"
    (what a cheek thinks I)
"Yeah.. I don't have many friends to talk to, your the only person to call me today"
    "Well Mr Little can I..."
"You sound nice, what's your name?"
    "erm.. Can I just..."
"I like the sound of your voice. What are you doing tonight?"
"ermm I'm actually busy tonight. Can I just ask.."
"What about tomorrow night? or the night after that? I'm not doing anything. I never go out. I never speak to anyone, I can speak to you though can't I?"
    "Erm.."
"What's your name? My names Pete.."
"Erm. sorry mr Little, sorry to have bothered you..."
    "Oh don't go.."
    "Beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep "

hehe.. they never called back.. I wonder why?

That and the double glazing salesman who called once (I was actually working for a double glazing company at the time) who i strung along for 30 mins asking about conservatories and all these really expensive features etc. and when he asked for my address so he could send round a sales man..

    "Sure.. Top floor flat.."
    "CLICK!"

    See Me? I'm evil me!

I tried saying 'not interested' etc - they then are trying to persuade you to become interested in whatever they are trying to sell. They just step up their sales pitch.

Saying 'I never buy anything being sold over the phone' means that no matter how persuasive they are or what the product is, there is no possiblity of me being a customer so it makes them more likely to give up.

Nah, sorry, I've tried that, too. I often just say 'I'm not interested, goodbye', and they are still chattering away. Other times, when you get that silence for a few seconds, before they start talking, and you know it's a sales call, I very silently put the phone down, and sit and listen to them go: 'Hello? Hello? Missi Holllllett? Hello? You there, Missi Holllllett? Hellooooooooooooooo!? My name is blahblahblah....' Some of them go on for ages before they finally give up!

I take my hat off to Beo, though. Fantastic!

    that made my morning!!!!

TPS works for me.. still get the odd sales call but when i threaten to "sue their a**" they tend to just apologise profusely and then it is funny!!!!
