They WERE hacked which is why they lost the emails. However I've not noticed any extra spam in my inbox and the disruption was fixed pretty quickly.
I have... I used to get zero spam on my PlusNet email account (don't think it ever had a spam message in over 2 years), but started to get them as soon as their servers had been hacked.
