    Hmmm - good idea!!!
On the more serious note - HOW do you ask? All I did, said - I would like to go for Champs, looking for a partner, are you interested?
One was downright frosty - no, maybe you'll get better in a couple of months. Thanks - at least that was honest!
The other had more or less the same response, but to do with himself - due to his knock out early previous year he is now not very comfortable with the idea of competing. Thank God, nothing to do with my dancing!
So, was there anything else I could have said / done?
We won. Kept it quite though. Don't want everyone to know.
Yeah, right - FYI, wittyBird, he's got a whole thread devoted to the win!

Lots of people don't want to compete (me, for one), and lots of people don't want dance partners. And, yes, lots of people won't want "you" (for "you", read "XYZ person") as a dance partner.

Finding a dance partner is as difficult - or more so - than finding a relationship partner. Especially for a woman, given the normal gender imbalance. Look at the problems a proven, experienced, talented and gorgeous dancer like Missy D has trying to find a partner, for example.

So that's the scale of the task you have. So don't be discouraged by 2 refusals, that's normal I imagine.

Maybe there should be a thread prior to a weekend, arranging a meet of all people who are looking for dance partners.

Bit like a lonley hearts ad. (or lonley dance ad)

Female 35 seeks male 30-40 in London area
into blues, tango and hip-hop for weekenders
and comps. Must have GSOH and ability

I'd subscribe to that one straight away - looking for a XYZ with hip-hop unnecessary, tango optional, MJ very desirable abilities... Presence on the dancefloor essential!

I favour the direct approach, in my experience, it's best to get it over with quickly, as 9 times out of 10 you won't get the answer you want. Although it is worth adding that you don't need an answer right away, give them time to think about it.

I've never asked anybody that I don't know at least a bit, personality is as important as the dancing, although I have been asked a few times by ladies that I don't know. It's always flattering to be asked, even if it's not going to work out.

Flattering? I thought scared sh....less by the prospect was the more accurate description in my case!

Re: Ceroc Champs - when are you up for it?

If you know you want to do it... then that is the time you are up for it.

Ask as many people you can that you have a connection with. Start at the most preferable option and work down.

It is all about the journey. The practice and the process of getting to know your dance partner better is great.
You become a better and more confident dancer.

Do set ground rules up front - e.g. I want to improve my dancing by regular practice (check they can comit to at least once a week on top of regular dance nights) and I want to give the champs my best shot...

    Good luck - keep asking...
