Utopia Scotland Blues week-end with Val & Dave - Glasgow 21st/22nd July

So who's coming to the Utopia weekend in Glasgow then?

I though I might go... After all it's only 10 minutes' walk from my flat...

Re: Utopia Scotland Blues week-end with Val & Dave - Glasgow 21st/22nd July

I'll be coming down for that

However with various trips to the US I'm having to be a more careful about workshops etc so I think I'll give those a miss, although I'd really like to do them.

Could anybody recommend some place to stay near by ? B&Bs, hotels etc ?

Also, anybody fancy sharing the drive from Aberdeen ?

I have to say that Franck is really treating us well this summer, between wcs, bbr, utopia, focus week-end... Keep it going Franck please

    Very unlikely to come.

Oh well, as long as the weather is good I shall be having beach bbqs and generally enjoying myself on the Northumbrian coast . What could be better, panoramic views across the bay, happy, cheerful, non-fighting daughters, large hut with no electricity, no running water and no plumbed in toilet. Can't imagine why Ducasi isn't demanding to come

Can't make it I'm afraid - I'll be wearing a fetching tartan costume and dancing on the lawn at Falkland Palace instead, along with Austrian, Lithuanian and Czech dancers. (Am I allowed to say that it's part of the Dunedin Festival, and not just me doing some mad random activity, or does that constitute advertising?)

I'm thinking of going, but I've never been to anything but week night classes (for the last 5 or so months, and one beginers workshop). I'm not sure I'm ready yet.

Hmmm... 5 months I'd say is sufficient experience to learn a bit about blues dancing – especially for followers. But even if don't want to the workshops, there'll be a "mainstream" room at the party on Saturday night.

Certainly the first workshop 'Groove the Blues' would suit. It's designed for those new to Blues as well as a refresher for intermediates +. The basics in any dance style are always worth visiting again to ground your dancing and this is especially true in Blues where the connection with your partner and the transition from the basic movement to the actual moves, and back again, is so important.

I'd love to go to both the Saturday night party and the Sunday teadance, but don't think I'll be doing any workshops...

Anyone know somewhere cheap to stay (B&B or even hostel?) nearby, or can anyone offer a sofa/floorspace for a Little Monkey and her sleeping bag? That is, if I can get my neighbour to look after doggie for me for 24 hours...

Can you pay at the door for the Saturday night party?

Yes, you can pay at the door for both parties, you don't need to book a ticket.

Still thinking about what workshops, if any, to do.

Might do the ones on Sunday... Guess I need to find a suitable partner though... Hmm...

Sure, but for the last workshop I'd want to do it fixed, as I'm only wee.

    Oi

Careful mate. You've probably managed to hack off half your usual (average height, average weight) dancers. Anyway hope everyone has fun at Utpoia. And I expect to catch the workshops second hand as it were! Nothumbria got very wet today so we sloped off back to Dundee - central heating, hot water and a washing machine - bliss.

    Have Utpoian fun

Re: Utopia Scotland Blues week-end with Val & Dave - Glasgow 21st/22nd July

Was really looking forward to the Saturday night party, but in the end didn't make it along ...don't know if it was a change in the weather but all day yesterday my knees were flippin' killing me. Not even a session on a Migun thermal massage bed helped.....in the end I decided against going, as it would have just depressed me not to be able to dance to all the fab music ...
Will just have to get the Utopia experience some other time........

Re: Utopia Scotland Blues week-end with Val & Dave - Glasgow 21st/22nd July

What a fab weekend Much respect to the Utopia team, Val & Dave, Foxy and Limpytink, especially after that drive on Friday night/Saturday morning

The workshops were great on Saturday, much to Val & Dave, I learned loads and really enjoyed it - special thanks to all my girls

Their fun class on Saturday night at the party was excellent! I had a blast, great music in the Utopia room from Foxy and Rocky sooooooooo many fab dances in there, Nix played a storm in the main room too

And for once, we didn't need to pack all of the equipment up so it was v chilled at the end of the night

I loved Sunday's Bass Line Blues routine, although 11am! who's idea was that

There's something so special about the chilled atmosphere dancing in the late afternoon, again great music from the boys, fab dancing and a brilliant demo of the Utopia "Boogie" stroll to finish the weekend off.

Thanks guys see you all at the wedding!
