    Stupid Person Blames Satnav

Theres a lot of stupidity about. This 20 year old student followed a borrowed Satnav and parked her car on a railway. But she says "I can't completely blame the sat nav because up until there, it did get me where I needed to go". Thats big of her, its not entirely the electronic maps fault - her total stupidity gets at least some of the blame

Wonder what shes a student of, I was trying to think what college accepts people that unintelligent. Art college ?

I wonder if she'd been using a map if she'd have done anything different though? Surely all she had to do was open both gates, drive straight through and then go back and close them? Would it have been Ordinance Survey's fault if the same thing had happened...

Makes me even more certain that I don't want a sat nav for quite some time...

Being unintelligent is different to not having common sense. In my experience, most students don't know their arse from their elbow anyway. Going to college is just a way of delaying their passage in to the real world, which they are usually ill equipped for.

It has nothing to do with sat-nav and everything to do with her just being unbelievably stupid

Very true. And some of the most "intelligent" people I've ever met (academics that is) have had no common sense. I remember one struggling with the idea that we could e-mail a document to someone in China and then be able to get a signature back. I had to explain that they would print the document out, sign it and fax or post it back. Mind you, his name was Professor Pratt... (yes, really).

Not something I'd have thought of exploring in that particular instance...

So I wonder which option you've gone for this time...?

A SatNav is just a talking map that tells you how to get somewhere, its useful if thats what you need. It no more cares about how you drive or how stupid you are than a paper map does Ultimately a SatNav IS an ordnance survey map - it just gets read out to you. I do wonder if she would have exercised any sense with a paper map, some people do see technology as an "authority" - i have no idea why though

Gav is as thick as two short planks.

And what do you mean 'This time'? I'm not planning on working my way through EVERY man on the forum.

Anytime you wish to carry out further experimentation on this hypothesis, just let me know.

Why? Do you know someone brainy who would like to prove me wrong?
