Why do women still choose non gender balanced weekenders ?

Theres really not much that could have been done. 1300 odd people attended and there was 25% women over. My cals say that there were 487.5 men and 812.5 women.

the point 5 of a man I guess could be the corpse (that bloke gets everywhere and always has the same shirt???) and I got the .5 of a woman (don't think they had the op if you see what I mean!!!!)
Maybe some women 812.5 dont give a f*** about gender balance

On Woodface figures assuming he got CSE maths we have 62.5% women and 37.5% men

This PROVES a non gender balance weekend is TWICE as popular as a gender balance weekender with WOMEN

Blimey...I had no idea gender balancing was so important. I'm writing a letter to my MP right now to get their views on Gender Balancing and how they intend to tackle it.

I suggest you all do the same. Apparently our lives depend on it.
No i mean its rain must be global warming

and the question why so many women over remains . If we assume Woodface got O level maths we still have 25% women over why ??? The forum would dictate less women should be going more choice elesewhere, is the forum model flawed.

The first couple of weekenders I went to I was absolutely sick of fighting for a dance. In fact I started the thread '10% my arse' cos' I was so annoyed that Franko had given so many places to women.

But it doesn't bother me so much now, as I know loads of people & usually go with the long suffering present Mr DT, Gav, so I can always grab him if I'm short of men to hassle.

The key is to take a man with you, then the 10% doesn't count.

GCS and O levels? What are they? I got GCSE's in Maths if that helps.

Very tired though so someone else might want to work out the figures.

Thing is, if women didn't choose to go, then no women would turn up and it would be men over.

The other solution is to become a good dancer. You will be asked for more dances then.

    1) Bizarrely, some people pick weekenders by location rather than quality

    2) Some women don't know any different - especially if they haven't been dancing long and are used to class imbalances. I wouldn't mind betting that Jive Time weekenders have quite a high proportion of non-Ceroc modern jivers - who may just not know about Ceroc and Jive Addiction weekenders.

    3) Fewer women did book - didn't I read on t'other thread that there were 400empty places? Obv. fewer men booked as well.

    4) Ceroc claims to have over 200K members (how many of those are still dancing though? ) Plus there are other MJ organisations out there. I would be surprised if forum members represented even 1% of regular modern jivers - and since there are less than 1,000 regular posters, I think it's safe to say that the forum is not representative.

This is all a good point.

Down in sussex and alot of kent, there is no (or very little) ceroc it's all Leroc or indy stuff. there was about 50 people from my local classes in Hastings. Mainly women (think about 5 men). But that is how it is balanced at them classes too so nothing they are not used to.

There are some pretty dodgy .......

    .... Maths on this thread!

Anyway who cares about gender balance. It's quality that counts, we need dancers who are friendly enough and not too bad on the dance floor.

What is the point of having loads of people of the opposite sex if they are going to spend most of their time propping up a bar, or gossipping in the ladies, or "getting ready".

I personnally book on any Weekender when i feel like dancing. Leave it till the last minute normally, I sympathise with the women about these (to my mind, stupid) gender controlled events where you need to book a lifetime in advance. I bet the same organisers would not be so foolish as to make their dancers book their normal dance evenings this way - no one would bother to turn up. I wonder what the gay dancers think of this nonsense.

.... and I tried so hard not to fall into this trap but.......

    Not true

I'm a really bad dancer and I get asked all the time:

Take your own really becomes the only option

Or... Learn reverse roles so you can dance with everyone

Now you've gotten me thinking about this Jamie.....

I don't want to lead. Why not I ask myself. Mainly because I:
    • have enough difficulty following and want very much to improve that
    • In my other dance life I have total control, a big focus on technique and on memory - I want something very different from my MJ life
    • Several experienced dancers have said that learning to lead made them a less good follower
    .

I feel a new thread coming on - bet it's been done to death before my time though.

Does learning to lead improve your following and does learning to follow improve your lead

    Thanks

you do know i was with DTS that weekend.!

gender balance is only really relevent when you have the classes. Its a nightmare trying to learn something when your being shoved off the line every two mins. In fact is can ruin a weekend. I now do not do many classes unless i get a fixed partner in something specific so it does not bother me anymore but i will bother newbies to the weekender scene.

Why do we bother though, we have no choice im afraid.

Of course you have choice most events are gender balance (including ceroc camber , so location is not the issue)

My view is many women don’t care (maybe have partner friends etc etc) Care maybe wrong word will ‘put up with it’

Clearly Franco wont go bust over gender issue (contrary to forum believes)

Hey maybe proves Darwin was right, women to like fighting over men
