I stopped smoking over 2 years ago and it's the best thing I EVER did. I did consiously sell it to myself as "stopping" rather than "giving up" as I knew that I would feel I was missing out on something if I gave it up - rather like being on a diet and not being allowed to eat chocolate makes you want to eat more.
My Auntie who has stopped (more than once) 14 months ago, says she thinks of herself as a smoker who is not smoking.

    I can't wait!

I've just got back from Spain. Sadly it wasn't warm enough in the evenings to eat outside and it became a stark reminder of how it 'used' to be in restaurants over here before No Smoking areas were introduced Also, it appeared to be quite 'normal' for people (mainly the locals) to toss their cigarettes butts on the floor, when they'd finished with them, especially when sitting up at the Tapas bar

Anyway, back to the question...Yes, I can also smell a smoker from 20 paces but have never smoked myself.

My tip for dancing is.... develop a good breathing technique... inhale when your furthest away from your partner and exhale while close. Try to avoid 'blues' dancing completely, unless you want to end up looking like Dreadful Scathe!

Well, I'm an exsmoker and yes, agree to 20 paces. But to be honest, it's not an issue that's going to affect my relationship with whom I dance or socialise with. Everyone should be able to make a choice with regards to their lifestyle and how they want to live.

Agreed...as long as I don't have to breathe in their smoke, because if I did then that would affect my lifestyle choice, would it not?

By the way...it's not just the repulsive smell (fag breath) that is the problem. There is evidence to prove that smokers breath can be damaging to others, particularly to babies, in the same way that passive smoke can affect non-smokers.

I wouldn't let any smokers near my kids when they were babies, whether they were smoking or not.

I agree too... like DT said, as long as I don't have to breathe the smoke, then thats fine by me.

I've actually got very few friends who smoke now-a-day's but thats not cos 'I've' chosen not to be friends with them anymore, it's just that most of them have given up

I can't say honestly say I'm 100% happy about the remaining friends still smoking but that's purely cos I care about their health, the smoking has no effect on how much I like them as people!

I must say i am feeling like a god at the moment.

I am never out of breath i have no aches and pains anymore.

I went to the doctors a while ago with a list of complaints and the doc said to me.. i am not treating anything to do with you until you give up smoking.
I was stunned, however after giving up smoking i no longer have any sympons that i previously had.

I feel marvellous and would recommend giving up to everyone.
XXX XXX Ps what does dreadful scathe look like?

I will try the selected breathing bit as recommended by Lorry and see how i get on XXX XXX

Re: I have given up smoking

Ok sport fans here is the latest.

Still off the fags but have developed some sort of weird rash on skin joints of my arms, ie in crease of elbow and where my arms meet my chest.

Very puzzled over this as i have always been immune to nearly everything, except pink.

Go all fuzzy and melty at the sight of pink.

Anyway breath is great, getting really strong again, with loads of stamina coming back.

And i am getting taller by the minute, i swear i am getting taller

Food tastes wonderful and enjoy a pint or two now as well.

Tongue looks like a tongue now and not like a piece of spam.

To all of you smokers out there stop as soon as you can, you will live for ever. XXX XXX
