Don't make me regret clearing my ignore list, guys
Just got an email from JN with some more details for this - apparently it's part of the Marylebone Village Summer Fayre 2007.
Dunno if there will be a dance floor however - and I don't fancy dancing on concrete.
Ooooh, with the weather expected to be reasonably dry in London on Sunday, this Marylebone jig looks a little tempting now
Right, that's it! The rail fare's cheap enough, there's no engineering works, and a nice day it' looking (so long as the forecast doesn't change)...So I'm gonna go to the outdoor event in Marylebone
Will anyone else be there on Sunday?
Did anyone do the workshops or parties? Any reviews? Am just curious... Beo and I went to Putney which was quiet... assumed it was because of this.
I said to someone about the "Jive Invasion London Weekender" - he misheard me and thought I'd said "Jive Infection!"
Well, I snuck in under the waistcoat yesterday afternoon...
The floor was lino - along the road, curved slightly. Simon kept on making jokes about it being "Australian imported handcrafted oak" or something, strange man that he is.
The weather held up, fortunately - it was quite busy. There were a few regular classes, and generally it went pretty well. The invasion of the Greek Dancing troupe around lunchtime was kind of strange, verging on surreal, but they left after a while.
Saturday, apparently the venue was changed from the Hippodrome to "salsa!" just down the road. Friday, I heard good things about the cabaret, but not-so-good things about the class.
That's it for me
I only went for Sat daytime.
There were appox 15 men and 10 ladies, varying a little as the DJ and the teachers/demos jumped in to try to help the gender imbalance. At one point there were enough men to have men standing between each couple and still have a man too many.
Most of the routines were recorded, so if JiveNation decide to put them on youtube as usual, you can see what you missed. Typically the last move in each routine got dropped due to time limitations. The whole thing started about 20mins late. I've now seen a "Tornado", even if I haven't been taught it.
Several Aussie moves had signals, but I think they're not actually necessary. I haven't had a chance to try them properly yet.
Teachers seemed to be a problem. Cat couldn't make it, so Paul taught WCS with Ed as his demo. Seamus Waldron did make it, but was injured so couldn't teach the drops class.
I did learn some new moves and concepts, which is all I could hope for. No qualms about my £25.
I can only speculate, but I bet that the number of tickets sold was too low, so Simon couldn't afford to hire the Hippodrome on the Sat night.
Can anyone report on the Battersea Arts Centre Tea Dance yesterday afternoon?
