Not really a fan of 80's pop, it makes me remember how old I really am. I guess if it was an afternoon set and I could get drunk, I'd enjoy reminiscing but not sure if i'd dance to it. I'm happy to come and heckle you though!
Dance if I liked the track(s)...
Listen if I liked the track(s)...
Stalk out of the boudoir in disgust...
Think it's a naff idea but live and let live...
Inspired by this thread and the 80s theme for Saturday night at Chill (plus the fact I am a sucker for 80s music) I am considering asking for a Sack the DJ spot at Chill in order to play an hour or half-hour, however long it is, of 80s pop music. However, having seen the floor cleared at Storm by someone else's choice of STDJ music I thought I ought to take some soundings on here from people as to the likely interest hence the poll. I realise you may not know if you are likely to dance without knowing what will be played but you'll know if you're not likely to dance to that style of music at all (much like some people will not do the Boogie Tonite handbag dancing for whatever reason).
Poll to follow shortly.
Rob

i'm well up for it, just try keeping me off the floor
Won't be there either but wish I was. I'd support it!!
Lotsa love lorna x-x
Some 80's pop is just fantastic, some is just unspeakably bad.
Can you tell us which kind you will be playing?
Let your mind go and your body will follow. – Steve Martin, LA Story
I don't drink. So I'll be in another room somewhere. A long way away!
Sheesh. You want playlists *before* the event now
Actually, I haven't a clue. Whatever is on various 80s compilations I have that I like and think is danceable. There could well be cheese but it will not have mould on it.
Two things for certain if I do go through with it
1 - There will be no Black Lace played.
2 - 'The Way You Make Me Feel' by Michael Jackson will be played
Oh yes great idea! Go for it Rob. There's a lot of potential in the 80's, and it's so appropriate too.
If you book a slot Sunday PM then I could go on first and then you would be able to learn from my mistakes on the decks...
Then we can all mosey on to the Boogie Tonite Stroll class at 6.15PM ...
Just a thought
Don't fall for it Rob! The Zebra just wants you to make her set look even more lush than it would anyway!
i`m bang up for it.......i`m working on the playlist now
1, high fidelity ( song from FAME, truly awful) think bruno mertelli who played the piano.......
2, if i get to play a 2nd song then it may go like this
3, Go Go by Wham
4, heartbreaker by Dionne warwick
5, baby can i hold you tonight by Tracy Chapman
6, sweet love by anita baker
7, never gonna give you up by Rick
8, Need you tonight by INXS (i`ve been told you can West coast to this!)
yes please.........
No no, my set would have to be followed by 'Rock and Roll' to look 'more lush than it would anyway'.
I really think some energised 80's music would be very complimentary. My set will probably be 'coma inducing'. Then Rob's set will stimulate everyone - ready for the BT class.
Simple.
Here's a quick 80's-only play list I've put together...
I Think We're Alone Now – Tiffany
Sweet Dreams – Eurythmics
Fade to Grey – Visage
Ride On Time – Black Box
Girls Just Want To Have Fun – Cyndi Lauper
You Spin Me Round (Like a Record) – Dead or Alive
Billie Jean – Michael Jackson
Sweet Child O' Mine – Guns N' Roses
Black Velvet – Alannah Myles
Enola Gay – OMD
I Drove All Night – Cyndi Lauper
I've Seen That Face Before (Libertango) – Grace Jones
Kiss – Prince
There's A Guy Works Down The Chip Shop Swears He's Elvis – Kirsty MacColl
Not all "pop", but I reckon there's something for everyone there and they'd all be good to dance to.
Hmm... Maybe I should have a go at the Sack The DJ thing... How long a set do you get, and is it frowned upon to DJ from an iPod?

hey, get your own theme
I think sets are an hour - am not sure where the 'sack' element comes in though - can adverse punter reaction get you kicked off??
As for DJing from an iPod - I don't know if it fits with the equipment on site but I just planned to burn a suitable CD, bung it in and dance the hour away - none of this 'reading the mood of the floor' malarkey
