    Re: Mariachi??

Erm, Thanks, guys. Am a little embarrassed, and a little humbled by the reviews but, somehow, am not surprised... The guitar is a beautiful, incredibly adaptable instrument and there are LOADS of great impassioned tunes out there.
I experimented a little, but was aware of my surroundings. Steve was very brave to let Mariachi loose on his punters , and I think it paid off for him.

    Anyway...

The set: Loads of well known stuff, some really safe stuff, some really pushing the boat out in terms of sound world, some just challenging.

    Don't Stop Believing: Journey
Wade In The Water: Eva Cassidy
Rocking In The Free World: Neil Young
Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood: Santa Esmeralda (?) from Kill Bill OST
A Fistful of Dollars: Ennio Morricone
    Love Generation: Bob Sinclair
    Samba Pa Ti: Santana
Good Morning Little School Girl: Paul Rodgers
    Dance The Night Away: Mavericks
    Big Love: Fleetwood Mac (live)
Who's Been Sleeping In My Bed?: Glenn Frey
Sweet Child O' Mine: Guns and Roses
    He's a Dream: Can't remember (Flashdance OST)
    Way Down: Elvis
    Moonflower: Santana
Whose Baby Will You Be Tonight?: Big House
    Tush: ZZ Top
    Stairway To Heaven: Led Zeppelin
    Stray Cat Strut: Stray Cats
    Madison Blues: George Thorogood
    Poison: Alice Cooper (request )
    Refejo La Luna: Alacran
On The Road Again: Katie Melhua
    Big Bad Moon: Joe Satriani
    Who Knew: Pink
    Steamy Windows: Tina Turner
    Brown Eyed Girl: Van Morrison
    SOmething else I can't remember cos I'm a dill
    Rock Me: Great White
El Aquimista something: Celtic Cortos (I need to check this spelling cos I can't read my writing!!! )

Stoke Bloke said, rather generously, that something was born... I truly hope so.

I look forward to other sets, opening the envelope and really making something of this music: it deserves to be danced to.

    Thumbs up Re: Mariachi??

I was at Bromsgove yesterday too.

I have never posted on here before - in fact, I only recently got to find out about this site by word of mouth - Fletch I think it was. Cheers Fletch!

Anyway this is what I noticed at Bromsgrove..... when CJ first started playing the Mariachi music, the floor cleared, for a few seconds people looked at one another, like it was written on their head "what the hell is this? How are we supposed to dance to this?" and then some of the more experienced dancers started to interpret the music. Once that happened it was terrific.

The routine that CJ and Yliander did to Roxanne was fantastic and gave everyone an idea of what could be done if only one had the courage to 'go for it' and live the passion of the music.

From then on - it was a truly memorable night for all the right reasons.

I went to a Utopia night last week and I didnt enjoy that half as much as I enjoyed CJ's Mariachi music set - I am copying the playlist as we speak!

Well done CJ and thank you and Yliander for such a thrilling routine.

I am definitely going to the workshop on 24th June.

thank you Roxanne is a wonderful piece of music. just to clarify though - it was a freestyle dance - not an actually routine.

It deserves to be danced to and dance to it I did. Wow. What an awesome experience. It was truly THE BEST music I have ever danced to. I wasn't sure of how it was going to be but WOW!!!!!! Every time a new track started I jumped up and down. squealed a little with 'I LOVE this song' and grabbed a dance. 2 hours of non stop dancing. All of my favourites. Dancing to GnR was out of this world.

I have checked the map and the next one is just over 2 hours away. I will try my absolute best to be there. I don't think Stokie will need too much persuasion. 6 hours of Mariachi is just far too tempting.

Thank you CJ and all the best for the future with this.

As far as I know it's in a place called Oakham, in leicestershire(sp). But I am not 100% certain. Can anyone confirm or correct this? I know we can't wait to dance a Mariachi night again, it was really amazing!!!

That's what I saw when I did a bit of poking about too. Been in touch with the organiser and those details are definitely correct. Bring on the Mariachi - can't wait

Is it just me, or does Mariachi sound a bit like an Arthur Conan-Doyal anti-hero

    Re: Mariachi??

Funny name, but the idea is a good one if it means that the beat will be big and strong and the riffs mean and raunchy..I am thinking John Lee Hooker, Free, The Dustbin Album (Fleetwood Mac), Thin Lizzy etc
Oh, by the way, where is it?

    Re: Mariachi??

I was thinking of going to this one as it is only about 20 miles away from me, but I was wondering if it mj dancing or will it be more advanced style of dance all night, because when I took my friend to Daventry wcs the other week she hated it, so if I get to come this sat I don't want her not to enjoy herself, and I would not come on my own as it is place I never been to and not knowing anyone.

Its straight forward dancing, nothing special or clever. Come and introduce yourself to us, we will look after you. Me, DTS, double trouble and Gav. Its just a different type of music. First time for us too. We can all try something new together. Book it and dont be worried. xx
