We have a thrice-weekly service that you ring in advance to request to come to the village and a free MONTHLY(!!) service to the nearest town.
Fish and chip van sounds great - nearest shop/takeaway is 6 miles away.

Another pair of London tube stations on separate lines, but about 4 mins walk from each other are Bank and Mansion House.

From Charing Cross, I could take the 1437 Southeastern (Hayes) train to Crofton Park, about 5 minutes walk from where I'm going. Which would take 35 minutes.

Or I could take the 1437 Southeastern (Hayes) train to Ladywell, about 10 minutes walk from where I am going, total travel time 18 minutes.

Crofton Park and Ladywell Stations are less than 1 mile away from each other. And the direct train between them takes longer than it would to walk.

Mad. In fact, way beyond bonkers and well into the realms of bloody doo-lally.

Yeah, I just wanted to whine.

    um,

I thought this was a simple thing... do you like walking... if so Ladywell, walk 10 mins , 18 mins travel.

Do you hate walking, if so Crofton Park, walk 5 mins, 35 mins travel.

    Remembered another dodge.

Regents Park Underground Station on the Bakerloo line (currently closed for refurbishment) is about 2 minutes walk from Great Portland Street Underground Station on the Circle/Metropolitan Line.

This is useful when going to ISH ceroc on Tuesdays. - well it is when the damn things are open.

Bank is about 4 minutes walk from itself.

Re: An extremely educational thread about trains (boring)

Actually you can spend well over 4 minutes walking within Bank Station if you want to change from the central/northern lines to the circle/district lines or vice versa.

The map showing the connection is misleading. What you are actually doing is walking from Bank Station to Monument Station, or vice versa - at least a quater of a mile I reckon - through tunnels.

Hence my tip to go to Mansion house Station instead, especially if you want to travel westbound on the circle/district.
