    80s Concert

    Hi guys,

was hoping for some inspiration from you talented, creative types out there.

Have been asked to organise an 80s themed concert for one of the primary schools I work in. (As a child from this era I thought I'd died and gone to heaven when the HT approached me). Sheena, Trampy and Curtain will vouch for me when I say I love music from this era.

    My thoughts so far..

    The Final Countdown - Europe
    Holiday - Madonna
When will I be Famous - Bros
    Thriller - MJ
The One And Only - Chesney Hawkes
Feed The World - Band Aid (with change of words)
    Manic Monday - The Bangles
    Karma Cameleon - Culture Club
    Venus - Bananarama
    I'm Your Man - Wham
    Material Girl - Madonna
    I Think We're Alone Now - Tiffany
Making your Mind Up - Bucks Fizz
We Built This City - Starship
This Ole House - Shakin Stevens
I Wanna Dance With Somebody - Whitney
    Gold - Spandeu Ballet

(Apparantly one of the pupils is closely related to Tony Hadley - so am going to see if he would make a guest appearance. What are my chances, do you think? )

I have my own ideas of course, but would love some fresh ones, especially when it comes to staging some of these numbers. Teachers would prefer to work in classes (about 30). Going to use karaoke versions for most of them and put through my sound system and we have use of the high school theatre.

    Looking forward to these..

    Lotsa love Lorna x-x

    Re: 80s Concert

Do they all have to be MJ-able? Some of the below might be ...

    Bangles' Walk like an Egyptian
    Duran Duran
    A-ha
Come on Eileen - Dexy's Midnight Runners
Don't leave me this way - Communards
    Tainted Love - Soft Cell
    Like a Prayer - Madonna
Twistin my Sobriety - Tanita Tikaram
    Wake me up - Wham

As it's primary school, you might get away with Black Lace and Macarena as well

    No,

it is not for cerocing to. It is a concert for the parents. (I'm sure I'll sneak some jive in though).

Forgot about Black Lace. That'll do for the younger ones. Macarena was the 90s, I think.

    More ideas please!!!

Madness, must do this, cheers. Can just see them, ooh having strange flashbacks to Trevor and Simon too!!

ABC and Franckie. Worth considering, thanks.

Chesney just an outsider, 1991. So gutted.

    But Bros was 1988.

Will need to check Rick Astley.

    Re: 80s Concert

I haven't seen Vienna by Ultravox mentioned yet.
And of course there's lots of Joe Jackson, especially Steppin' Out, and all of his Jumpin' Jive album if you want to add something with a different feel.

and a few more that i don't think have been mentioned yet -

    Pretenders - Brass In Pocket
Dexy's Midnight Runners - Geno, Come On Eileen
    Roxy Music - Jealous Guy
Shakin' Stevens - This Old House
    Specials - Ghost Town
Adam & the Ants - Prince Charming
    Queen - Under Pressure
    Captain Sensible - Happy Talk
Survivor - Eye of The Tiger
    Eddy Grant - I Don't Wanna Dance
    David Bowie - Let's Dance
Paul Young - Wherever I lay My Hat (That's My home)
    UB40 - Red Red Wine
    Billy Joel - Uptown Girl
Frankie Goes To Hollywood - Two Tribes
    Nena - 99 Red Balloons
    George Michael - Careless Whisper
Chaka Khan - I Feel For You
Dead Or Alive You Spin Me Round (Like A Record)
    Paul Hardcastle - 19
Bowie & Jagger - Dancing In The Street
Billy Ocean - When The Going Get's Tough
    Fairground Attraction - Perfect
Yazz - The Only Way Is Up
    Enya - Orinoco Flow

Hmm - half of that looks like a mid 90's Ceroc set!

Bryan Adams - Summer of 69
Eurythmics - thorn in my side
    Shakin Stevens - Oh Julie
Abba - Super Trooper (which may be just outside the 80's)
When the going gets tough - Billy Ocean
Stuck with You - Huey Lewis & the News
The Lady in Red (Chris DeBurgh - last dance at the school disco?!)
Sledgehammer - peter gabriel (remember the fab video)
A kind of magic - Queen

think most of the above are '86?

Letter from America - the Proclaimers?! I LOVE THAT SONG
    It's a Sin - Pet Shop Boys
Love in the First Degree - Banananamanrananaananma (never could spell it!)
